That's only half the job, it's a gearbox for a crane. The day spakka has already drilled some holes in the wrong place and we've not got onto any of the tight tolerance stuff yet 🙄😂.

Is all of the stuff you do manual tool changes or does it have automatic changes?

The machine has a 60 pot carousel, 4m in x, 3 in y, 1.5 in z and 0.75 in w with rotary table with 12 tonne load capacity. I love big jobs 😁.

Thats amazing!
These MAGs have 42 on the carousel and then 36 or so on the chain.
No where near the XYZ size though! Thats crazy stuff.

Not long changed the high pressure coolant pump on one tonight. It has lasted just under 10 years so not too bad, but getting to that age now with the constant use that things are failing

More room in the tool changer would be great. This gearbox is 3880mm long so myachine is the only one big enough to get it all in one. I'm not sure how old the machine is, early 2000`s I think but it's been quite reliable in the 4 years I've been here considering preventative maintenance is non existent. The other week the day spakka said it had a spindle overheat alarm on all day and yeah the cooler tank was completely empty so it would do wouldn't it 🙄.

On to plan B 😂.

Only a dozen holes left to do. And the fitted studs don't fit in the holes 🤷🏻😂.

This isn't just Porl, it's all the UK machinists I've ever met!! In China they probably have 10 machines to each person and get deaded if they forget to tap a thread.
I have ran two machines for the last 30+ years. It's fine if you have no problems but can be a mare if one goes wrong.

Not sure how I'm supposed to set this thing level or clamp it down or measure the holes after machining them. I am sure that after wrestling the f**king thing from the other side of the building and onto the machine I'm ready for home. f**k this s**t.

Ever thought about working on smaller stuff 🤣🤣🤣

I've just spent best part of an hour inside a MAG changing one of the Hennig guards. At 6ft5, it was a struggle. Come to think of it, maybe I should work on bigger stuff 🤣🤣

It's only 3" long on the drawing 😂. When I saw the drawing I was planning on standing it up so the holes are at the bottom but there's no way of lifting it that way and I barely had enough space in the shop to pick it up anyway so it was never getting turned over. I put a couple of ratchet straps on so it's safe as houses now 👌.

Yeah that looks like a tight place to work in.

Its climbing inside through the side door thats the most awkward bit. Its not too bad once inside. Certainly needs some forward planning with what tools to take in with you because once you're in, you're in 🤣
