So you had one cam tjat was 180deg out to the other one?
Unless you dropped it well away from tdc when you span the cam 180deg you will of had valve contact.
take some toilet roll to the garage and give it to the guy who looked at your car and tell him to wipe his mouth with it as he's talking compete shite!!!!
return spring puts a little bit of lateral tension on the spindle and the butterfly then wears the body ever so slightly and that's what generally causes them to stick.
doesn't make sense bolt won't torque up? no logical reason why it wouldn't torque up.
and if you're running it not fully tight you might as well start a thread now about bending valves ?
