Thanks guys. Bugger, I was hoping I could just leave the cams and belts in place and just carefully remove the rocker cover. I've only fairly recently had a set of cams and new belts put on so I'm not going to pay for a cam service just to clean up the cover. The mount bracket is fine so...
Long story short I'd like to remove my rocker cover and give it a clean up, but its held in place by the engine mount/bracket on the left hand side. I've heard that removing the bracket interferes with the cams - don't know how true this is and I've never seen underneath the bracket so don't...
Sorry Chip I wasn't aiming this specifically at you or anyone. Like I say, it was just my 2p, pads need to get up to temp and lots on here fit higher temp pads which don’t then get up to their operating temp and therefore feel like they're not performing. Its just an observation on my OTT Alcons...
Just to add my 2p. Obviously excluding Tony and like who know what they're talking about, some people (inc. myself, at least in the past) get caught up on brake cooling when in fact it may be that the pads are not getting hot enough. I've replaced my fog light surrounds (no arch liners etc) with...
Oh good point, I forgot to add that I'm running 25mm spacers on the front..... I doubt they'd fit without spacers. Also the weights need to be right on the outside edge of the flat ridge just behind the spokes otherwise they catch the calliper.
I think it would have to be a smaller/thinner calliper such as the Willwood to run a 300mm disc. The benefits of the Alcons over the Willwoods more than makes up for the 10mm smaller necessary disc difference though, plus there is a wider selection of pads available.
Hey Kelv - will show you my...
Hi Chip, not that this helps much, but I had probably 10mm gap between my old Willwood callipers running 295mm discs and the F1's than I do now with my Alcons running 290mm discs, we're literally talking 1 mm between the weights and the calliper.
Hey James. Yes they're great aren't they, so much easier and time saving than using/loosing the little nuts and washers. Just another job to do that I've been putting off for a while. (we ought to have a Motorsport/Track-day section on the forum where people like me can ask questions directly to...
Great, another job I can do at the weekend!!
I posted another thread a while ago about the new Aerocatch back-plates, they're an extra £10 I think and are a plate the same profile as the Aerocatch with captive nuts in to go on the underside of the piece you're fixing so you don’t have to bugger...
Thanks. Your key-holes (directly above the threaded bar) look to be higher than I remembered the rubber bungs to be so thought you may have mounted them higher. (I haven’t been out to the car for a couple of days so can’t remember.) You mention your hatch is pretty much a single skin now, any...
Has anyone fitted Aerocatches to the rear hatch? - If so any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated, especially as to where to mount them. I want to get rid of the standard catch as think this is knocking, plus save a bit of weight getting rid of the locking mechanism etc etc. I’ve got the...
Andy, same reason I sold my 200 and bought the 172 was because I was killing it on track, you will find obviously its not as good a road car but strip it out and tune it up and its 10 times better. Regarding your harness it just seems like bad economics to buy a poor quality harness (that might...
Andy, I didn't notice you have a 200, I used to track a 200 and the first thing I upgraded was the tyres to a set of 888's, then bigger AP discs and RC6 pads and then a Willans harness which cost circa £350. Don’t spend £30 on your £20k car!! But as has been said above the car is more than...
As above, this will give you the most improvements over anything. Even now after 3 years of track days I still have at least one instructor session each time I go out, it’s always amazing how much I learn, or re-learn each time.£31 will get you a session and lunch, save your money until you can...
Thanks Oli, just gave them a call and have had to send them an e-mail as the discount is only available by e-mail apparently, will let you know how I get on.
Just had a look at the link to your harness, if you havent bought it already i'd perhaps wait and save up, I would'nt think the quality was great on a £30-odd harness, you should be looking to spend 10 times that for a good pair with steel adjusters - more with alloy adjusters. Also if you are...
Have a search on here for a similar thread - there was a realy useful link to a Schroth (I think it was) site with harness mounting instructions you can print off. Honestly I'd do it properly which probably means drilling lots of holes and using the spreader plates as Sam says.
