yeah thanks steve, always helped me with most of my posts :) cheers
When i get outta work tomo im gonna whack either the 13s back on the front, or swap the front and backs around. Both should have the same effect. If it solves the problem i guess itll be a buckled wheel and im pretty sure it...
Just a quick question, am finally gonna try and rule out tyres of a buckled wheel as the reason for my car shaking at 70mph.
Is it legal to put 13" wheels on the front and 15"s on the back? It will only be for an hour or two so i can take it for a spin to see if the shaking is still there...
nah it seems ok, havent hit the kurb since ive had it, and the car used to run fine. Only had the car a few months and the problem has developed in the last few weeks.
Will get it checked out though, just to make sure :)
well yet another update on this damn problem!!!
Been for a 20 mile drive down the motorway tonight and experimented on the way :) heres what i found.
The shaking starts at about 65mph, at this point its quite bad and if i take my hands of the wheel it visibly shakes by about 5mm each way. If...
Do it urself m8, get the DIY kit from Halfords. Takes a bit of time and effort but brings them up super. Mine were totally naff but look nice now :)
The kits £25
Just taken a look on eurocarparts, is this the mount that needs replacing? Is it a DIY job or should i leave it to the garage?
Thanks
Dazz

Well heres the latest after being totally pd about my a garage in Lordswood.
Took it in thursday morning for them to diagnose the problem, get a phone call saying its the balancing. I told them it had been done and checked as well in the last week but they insisted it was the tyres. I said ok...
just a newbie question here? whats a cam and how does it work?
As i understand it kinda kicks in at higher speeds and somehow gives more power? also, i hear they cause bad idling or something?
Thanks
Dazz
PS would it be any good on an rt :)
by the way, beware that when changing calipers the bolts might be stuck. Tried to take the caliper totally off but one of the bolts started twanging as it was slowly coming off i.e. close to snapping off!!!
In the end i managed to get one bolt of and move the caliper and get the new one in.
HTH
yeah definitely, i hit mine the other week, its set above 6k for sure, i;ve only hit it once and its about 6300 i think. Depends on how warm the engine is.
hi steve,
just wondering, how long did it take before your discs warped? I just got some new standard solid discs and some KTR EBC pads and am bedding in, only done about 100mile and they seem to be working better and better. I just dont wanna test them really until ive done a few more miles...
id love a k-tec system, if only they werent so loud :( still each to there own, i might get one eventually :-)
From what ive heard K-tec seem to do the best performance boosting exhausts and i think they always fit perfect from what ive read + u get club discount which can be a fair bit...
well heres some more info about the problem i found out today.
The shaking is light or non-existant when going down hill or with one person in the car.
The shaking is worse when two people are in the car???
Sometimes the shaking is there, others it isn;t? Only coming through the steering...
yeah used some emry paper and a wire brush, nice and smooth. braking seems fine at the moment.
Just curios as to what sort of performance i should expect at the moment, i was guessing around 50% of full capability for the early miles?
Thanks
well all done now, new standard discs and KTR Kevlar pads.
Just gotta wait a couple of hundred mile before i can test them properly.
Just wondering, is it likely the brakes will smell for a few days whilst the brakes bed in? Also, i take it the performance of the brakes will be quite bad...
yeah, was just testing it, cant see one day running old and new will make any difference.
Yeah i compared them in the end to get the shape, lines seemed a bit closer together though, oh well, works ok :)
managed to get it off eventually :) took a good few whacks and a bit of wd40 but got there in the end. Just gotta do the other side tomo :) hehe
By the way, the brake pads werent marker clearly so i was guessing the ones with two yello dots on went together and the two plain ones would go...
blimey could be so many things!!!
dont think its the driveshaft although could be. Will take it to my local garage on Monday and let them decide, just hope it aint too expensive :(
BTW, if it was the bearing wouldnt it knock on cornerS?
Just chaning my brake discs at the mo but cant get the blugger off?
Any ideas? Ive taken the screws out and removed the caliper etc. but no luck. It seems to be rusted on. Im scared of hitting it too hard case i do some damage?
Any techniques for removing stuck discs?
had the balancing done twice to check, hes done it before and always done a good job in the past.
KDF, the shaking seems to come from everywhere, very strong through the steering wheel but even the passenger can feel it. Is it likely to be the combination of a new shock on the NS front and an...
Hi all
Ive got quite a big prob with my RT. When i hit 60mph + the car shakes like mad. Ive had the balancing done this week and re-checked to ensure it is ok, also had it laser tracked and everything is fine.
I only used to get shaking when i got to 85 - 90mph (private road somewhere) but...
