So I've been toying with the idea of becoming an automotive writer for some time now. Having graduated from Leeds Uni last summer, I've been working in sales to earn some quick dosh, but throughout I've been thinking of doing a masters in Automotive Journalism at Coventry Uni.
In order to 'dip...
My DS3000s are amazing and I was pushing very hard at my last track day. They're fine on the road from cold too, don't seem to squeak as much now either. Only downside is they've eaten my wheels!
Just thought I'd update the thread for anyone else's benefit.
Thanks for the help guys, it was a case of greasing up the top mount bearings and even tightening the 3 bolts on the top! Even though we had tightened them to the recommended torque, after settling down and then facing the abuse of...
Thanks for the help, so the solid mounts will need greasing every so often I guess?
Dissapointed as that's not something I expected I'd have to do when I bought these to cure my knocking original mounts!
I've found a few pages with similar symptoms, but different causes so thought I'd start a new post to see if anyone's experienced my issue:
I've recently fitted new Cup shocks, Eibach Proline springs and PureMotorsport solid top mounts, as well as new lower wishbones and a poly bush dogbone...
Yeah you're right the nose was planted and the rear was quite light! I was running semi slicks on the front, and road tyres on the rear. The reason being that the cool, damp conditions made it tough to get rear tyre temp without raising the pressures right up. I quite liked the balance for most...
Yeah the standard seats are a bit loose too so I can feel them moving! Really should sort that!
I want Recaros but can't justify the cost, even if I will get my money back eventually it's a serious dent!
Bonxy sorry for the very late response! I'm just moving it as close as possible to a practical track beast! So I've recently renewed all the shocks with new OEM Cup items, plus fitted Eibach Proline springs, and Pure Motorsport Solid Top Mounts. Plus I've changed the dogbone mount bushes to the...
Mine knocked for about 6 months and did a track day, and now I've got the PureMotorsport solid mounts. There was absolutely no damage when I swapped them. Just very knackered standard top mounts!
Yeah sanded off about 1mm and haven't been running the shims. They were lose within the calipers. The only thing I can think is maybe the sides of the pads needed filing down?
One of the pads looks fine now after a few mins of sanding it on a flat surface. So think they should be fine for this...
Yeah, it was the full Bedford layout too so I figured a whole lap at 30mph should have done it, maybe it wasn't enough! And I parked it in gear to protect the rears. It was a 33 degree day in summer so that wouldn't have helped.
They're only like this for about 1.5mm, so sanding them down so...
Yeah I figured heat most likely. They felt ok on the track, I always came in once the pedal began to go soft. But I will admit I was pushing so must have just pushed too hard in the braking zones!
I'm doing Snetterton this weekend, so this weekend I took the time to check the car over. This included cheking the pads.
I've been running DS3000s for a few miles now, they've done a track day with me at Bedford along with the Brembo HC disks I have, and they've been phenominal.
But upon...
Just thought I'd add to this since I've done the conversion now. The above is certainly true, the new shocks have transformed the car. The springs have also brought an improvement, the ride is much flatter, but for me the shocks were the biggest improvement. The car feels much nicer over bumps...
I'd love some sachs but my budget won't allow it :(
Think the Cup shocks will be a drastic improvement over my 80k old front shocks, and 1.2 spec budget rear shocks!
This is a question for those who've gone from Cup springs to Eibach Pro Kit springs.
Did the Eibach's match or improve handling on the car? I've done some research and as far as I can see, the Pro Kits are less sporty than the Sportlines, as explained by this video...
Is there a chance there could be issues with the plugs/leads/coil pack to explain hesitation?
When they're hot I've never experienced Kangaroo'ing, and the hesitation is max 0.5 seconds on mine (but it's a 182 so could be different?)
I've just had 2 new front tyres fitted, Michelin PS3s. Not really had a chance to give them a good test yet but initially they seem great, less road noise than my old Kumho K17s and the ride feels slightly firmer - for the better.
But just wanting to confirm, these tyres aren't directional...
Ignore the oldies on here mate! I'm 21, I went to a meet like this when I was 17. Even if your car isn't amazing, it's your 1st car. I'm now in a full time job, and guess some might say grown up (including the way I drive!) But I haven't forgotten how exciting it was to just have a car when I...
I thought about an MX5 before I got the 182. When I drove an old Mk1 1.8, I remember weaving when moving at speed to get a feel for the chassis, and it felt really wallowy. The Clio isn't solid but it definitely feels less wallowy. I guess that's just a result of not having a solid roof. Was fun...
Stunning! IMO leave the Turinis, the way it looks now is perfect! What suspension are you running? It sits so nicely. And I like the sticker, I was thinking about getting a Micheal Schumacher one to put in the same place, still uncertain but I like your Senna one!
