I had a ballache trying to order my ball joint from GSF as they weren't sure whether to sell me one with 10mm thread or 12 (as they didn't have one listed for the 182) and Eurocarparts didn't either. I had to do a lot of digging on here and found the Lemforder set for the 172 was the same and...
12mm thread IIRC but not sure on the length (just done it today).
Isn't one actually splined too? I only changed the one rather than take the splined one out and the pack that came with the new ball joint didn't come with a splined bolt, just two normal ones.
Halfords do a small socket set thats quite good (used to be about £20 when I bought it a few years ago), think a similar one is about £25 now and it's their professional sockets and ratchet, which IMO is about as good as the Snap On stuff I used to own. Mine are still as shiny and in as good...
4lb lump hammer and a bit of brute force sorted the problem. Was a bit of a pig to get the ball joint out of the hub too and it done this to my ball joint splitter:
Then on putting the new one in and it being very tight I got a bit creative with the jack and the driveshaft came out resulting...
My local B&Q dont have any in at the moment, nor will to Monday/Tuesday. Anyone that's fit any jubilee clips, on the 70 to 90mm ones do you have much of the clip left?
I ask as my local motor factor has 80mm ones in, but Homebase, Screwfix, local plumbing company and another place I forgot have...
Mine appears to be welded in and spanners/sockets etc just spin off the head. I've tried soaking it in WD40 etc, what I want to know is will it hammer out?
I'm asking as my car has just failed it's MOT. So I got home and picked up the phone and called GSF. Whilst on the phone he first says they dont do them (WTF?) then starts talking about only being able to find some for a 1.4 and that I'd have to call Renault for a part number.
So I then looked...
Just done mine this morning, a bit fiddly but only took about half an hour which included jacking up the car and rechecking on here to see how the lambda clips in.
Bonnet and wing need painting due to stone chips and someone reversing into them, leaving the wing scratched a bit at the bottom.
Pre cat lamda needs replacing (just haven't had the weather).
Exhaust needs lining up better after fixing hangers and not being 100% anyway.
Tax and MOT due within...
Three and a half years ago I made the same move after 18 months or so of ownership, from an F reg sixteen valve mk2 to a 27k FF 182. I done so as because I loved the mk2 and it had a strong engine, I got bored of having to get underneath it every week with crazzy little issues. I'd have another...
Probably me. Was cleaned last week with Megs shampoo (very shiny, but needs a polish) and has only been moved once this week. Left Asda at ten to seven or so and that's the route I took home.
Ha - you might have something there. I remember when I first got insured with Brentacre and they said I could do anything to the car as long as I notified them and it didn't go over 180BHP - I had to laugh!
If you're old enough can you not go with Sky insurance, Brentacre, Flux etc who do modified cars anyway?
The exhaust will likely give you nothing much if anything at all, it'll just prove to be a pain to insure with normal insurers.
As if Renault parts have ever been 'quality'. The only one (recessed washer + spring) that's let me down so far was the original. Getting a one from NW Performance on eBay will probably save quite a bit anyway IIRC (30ish?) and due to being changed at MOT time anyway you might end up buying a...
