Freebone, good video buddy. You certainly ate-up a few cars on that journey. If you do a breakfast run when I'm without the kids I'll defo join in.

Welcome, nice cars. I reckon though that you need to put some engine spray on that protector jobbie on the front of the Clio engine. They always get 'crusty' with oxidation but do clean up nicely.

Sounds like a timing belt change that went horribly wrong. Car must have done either 72,000 miles or be about 5 fives old, this is when the belts are changed according to the manual. As Danlp6 says, make 'em pay - and for all of it!

With my boyish good-looks I might pass for 30 ish (I'm a bit older really!). No blonde with me, just my kids! Any blondes wanting to be my passenger are always very welcome.

I have a 172 and get beaten by really lame cars sometimes. But at other times my car really flies. Sorry to say this M8 but maybe he's a better driver. Perhaps what you and me both need is to learn to drive our cars on a track i.e. learn properly. Another bonus if we do will be that we won't...
It seems that regular fuel (diesel and 95 RON) is their priority at the mo. Guess we'll all have to wait! Might still be a few weeks according to Shell.

Still dry in Exeter. How much longer I wonder? Tried BP ultimate and consumption dropped by 3 or 4 mpg and it doesn't pull as well. Using Sainsburys 97 now. Much cheaper and it suits my 172 way better!

Does anyone have an R Sport group N chip. I'm thinking 'bout it for my Mk1 172 and want to know if it's worth it.
Is it easy to fit yourself, is the power gain worth the cost and how much did you pay?
Cheers Rob669
As you said, sometimes it isn't worth bothering driving fast: a question of right time and right place (private airfields best). Glad you aren't hurt or the car damaged.

I read it too and what I got from it was that the expensive fuel is probably worth buying if used regularly and if it is nice and fresh from the refinery. With the current shortage of optimax it's been interesting to see who still has it! I won't buy from them from now on as it is most probably...
If you can change front brake pads you can change the rears too. Assuming you have discs that is - just make sure the springs go on in the same position as they came off.

I find that my 172 Mk1 wanders about now the front tyres have got a bit worn. My old Clio RSi was much worse though. The amount it wanders also depends on the road I'm on I find.
Hope it helps.

I need some new rear brake discs for my 172 Mk1. I'm fitting them myself and I can't be ars*d with pressing bearings into hubs and so need a set with them already fitted. Does anyone know the part number and the best place to buy them from i.e cheapest?

Can't believe how many I spotted over the weekend: Williams on Sunday at Marsh Barton and a Naples Red 16v at PC World. On Sat: another Naples 16v in Sidmouth, blue 172 Cup in Exmouth and a Shiney Black Vee in Exeter on the evening.
Also sat behind an Evo 400, nice throbby sound!

Thanks people, loads of lovely white Clio pics! I got the idea after following a non RS Clio in white the other day. I've also seen the racers in white. I just think there's something about the Clio in white that looks well cool. If you do get hit by a white van then there's less damage.

All cars with rear discs suffer this annoying problem. Work colleague's Lotus does it and so have both of my Clios. I park my 172 in a flattish garage and never use the handbrake - I just have an old rubber car mat behind the front wheels to stop the car rolling backwards.

Brake calipers I reckon. Take the pads out and give it all a real good clean (you'll need to buy a set of new bolts - about £1.50). It might cure it.
