On the other hand a 2k Clio and a 4k Supercharger conversion makes your VXR seem a very expensive option ;)
Cams you can get good gains but not impressive peak pub talk figures plus a lot of work to fit. Iv got cams with other basic mods and its turned over a lot of bigger stuff with turbo's...
Apex give a 40 mm drop. From my experience their fine when matched with decent shocks
Eibach for a quality ride not lowering.
Coilovers, go for a good make if your tracking it. For road use or only lowering total over kill so a cheap set should do you.
Have a search, theres a set of...
When the car next idles high, open the bonnet while its doing its thing, look and see if the throttle disk is fully resting back on the gromit. Turn the disk anti-clockwise and see if it stops the reving. 2 or 3 mil gap is enough to lift the revs.
If this appears to be the issue then its...
As already mentioned mate, check your TB is going back to idle on the idle gromit.
Spring problem is very very common on these and you wont hear the problem
Who said the OP was planning to fix it back up lol ?
Wouldnt have thought even the seller would expect that seen as you can pick a road worthy one up for only another 700 quid or so more if that!
Nice donor project vehicle or ebay breaking job
OP:
Manchester to Scunthorpe, guessing you went M62 motorway? To get 28.8 on a long motorway run sounds more like a fuelling / lambda issue. Was the car mapped? were one of the lambda's unplugged? was the decat blowing slightly?
You should have been getting easy mid 30 @ 70 / 80mph to high...
Wouldnt say you loose out. Maybe not gain that much.
End of the day they are a pretty mild cam. Depends what your after and if you can live with a rougher cam and gain more fair doo's
Im not impressed so far with the 428's compared to the Pipers although must stress their could be issues with my car which im hoping to look into (some things have already been checked) in detail when it gets a bit better weather.
So far tho managed to get 184 bhp peak with 169 lb/ft. Pulls...
Theres no advantage going straight through (having no centre silencer) - All you'll get is noise over one with a silencer.
Cat, better to have one you can remove really. MOT time, feds hassle etc etc and you'd have to replace a huge section / the whole exhaust if you dont.
Do you not fancy...
You can get bolts for wrong pcd's called wobble bolts. Not sure how good or safe they are tho. Have a google search and look on the VW forums as their into their unique wheels lol
Its just a shame you have to run aftermarket managment with ITB's. If the stock ecu could be mapped to suit they'd be a serious £££ vs performance bargain
Is the ebay one the same as this?

Normal Haynes, the above link and Cliosport guides is all you'll ever really need
6k, forget ITB's then you need a Supercharger in your life and you'll still have 2k left over, could even use that to forge the bottom end and aim for well in the 300's.
Have a hunt for some of the vids.
As for the tuners have a search there has been a few changes
PMSL
My mate works for Toyota and a fellow mechanic owns a 182 and even he wont touch the cambelt on his their that much of a pain to do so dont blame you :)
2 things you can do to check the cat.
Take it off and give it a good shake or if you prefer to leave it on, use a screwdriver and listen through the shaft to pin point if its the cat.
You should be able to inspect inside the cat too being a 182.
