Only problem with a decat is on a ph1 its a right old pain to change over once a year. Good mod, well worth it but a pain.
IMO the figure is roughly about right. You could spend big bucks taking it further by buying new OE parts all to seek out this lost 4 or so hp which in the real world...
if your wanting performance yes. Viper a 2nd choice although most would disagree and if you want to fit in ph1 airbox with ITG filter
Noise and loss of power (going by the threads on them and the look) Simota is the one to go for
Any exhaust problems will make a difference in results but i doubt the RR is 110% spot on accurate even if the rest of the cars were roughly about book figure add that to the usual 168 - 169hp ph1's usually run at and id say thats about right.
I used a piece of insulating tape behind the instro panel. Cover the hole where the LED bulb shines through.
1'' piece of tape cut off, cost roughly 0.0000001 pence. Totally hidden, easy to do, Job done ;)
My mate had a 200 bhp G40 and it was one of the quickest accelerating cars iv been in!!
Used to slaughter 280bhp Scoobys.
The only hope you have is to race on a damp day as he will have zero traction
In contrast between a Top Gear round the track thrash a few years back.
172 Cups are the quickest followed by the ph1's. Standard 182's are the slow ones (from experience)
As said use a jubilee clip. Thats what the mechanics at Renualt tend to use instead of messing about ordering up a new kit which in anycase is 30 odd quid excluding fitting and you cant buy the clips seperate
Apparently the newer Renaults if you have a split gate or need a clip you have to...
From personal run ins with them. From folks experiences and from speaking to folk who have rolling roaded them. They seem to be a bit of a let down from the out going model, performance wise
Anythings got to be better than the standard odd shape bent rippled affair. As already said, air flows better when in contact with a smooth surface.
Not a performance gain but probably better flowing than stock
Yeah thats spot on dealer price matey for new pulley and belt.
Dont delay it. If the auxilary belt decides to jump ship it has a habbit of taking its bigger brother the cam belt with it lol
Lets be honest about it, if it was his first time taking it off its not one of the easiest jobs to undertake on a 172 especially the side bolt above the pulleys
I thought the 182 and ph2 172 heads were essentially the same? :S Difference being the ph1 172 had slightly smaller inlet ports but bigger exhaust ports ?
Great project and respect for giving it a bash but going by threads on turbo'd 172's there is in some folks opinions still question marks over long term reliability, gearbox strength etc etc
Will be good to see how it compares to a standard GT Turbo engine with similar power
Hence the only real reason why folk fit them but the OE aint no Maxogen i can tell you that much :rasp:
Just a idea but anyone ever thought the reason why some folk felt they lost power with a Viper was because it was good at what it does (ie better air flow) that it caused you to lean off...
Loved my old Viper. Far better noise out of it (imo) than the Maxogen which in contrast dosent make errmm any! and never noticed a drop in power. Average build quality tho
One of the fastest 172's on here ran a Viper
Totally disagree with the line ''RS tuning in general is pointless''
Its expensive to tune them compared to turbo applications but thats it. There are good gains to be had out of them if the jobs done right.
