Hello chaps - long time no see.
After a couple of Coupe 20V Turbos and then no car at all, I've now got a Grande Punto 1.9 MJet - the compromise was necessary to get my lady driving a shared car etc... ;)
The diesel warm hatch format is actually a pretty good as an all-rounder, although...
Update: I've just found a 1.4 Dynamique S (A/C) for £146 + VAT per month. The 1.6 Dynamique S is £169 + VAT. Not sure I want to pay that much more for a second to 60 and 5mph!
Thanks for the suggestions guys. For various reasons, it has to be a new car and most likely a lease car (work are offering me a monthly payment in lieu of mileage claims, which is good as I do low miles).
The Clio, Mini and C2 are some of the cheapest out there on account of good...
Hello all,
I don't post much here these days, but I may be after another Clio. For those newer members, I've previosuly had a series of "normal" Clios, a 16V, Williams no.123, a 172 Ph2 and a couple of Fiat Coupe 20V Turbos.
Sadly the new car won't be a 197 - or indeed any bona fide...
I don't post here very often these days, but am doing so to recommend the Dynamique.
I used to have a proper performance cars (including a Clio 16V, Williams and Ph2 172) but have been cold turkey since just after Christmas due to city centre living and no parking.
My other half and I...
Just another snippet of history for you:
When the Mk2 was released in 1998, the top model was the "16V" - with the 110bhp 1.6 lump - costing about £15k (bit of an insult to the Mk1 16V). We didn't really know whether it was intended as a Renaultsport model, but it was duly re-named the...
Price is just about what I was expecting, possibly slightly less given that I heard £17k was likely.
The current trend is for manufacturers to make everything an option - think BMW or FIAT, who even ask £20 for a locking fuel cap on the new Punto - so I'm hardly suprised.
It's a little...
I'm very much looking forward to seeing the new 197 in the flesh.
We're down to one car at the mo and will be needing a replacement. I like the basic design and look of the Mk3, so fingers crossed the 197 will drive as good as it looks.
In the past I bought a used '02 172 that had all its initial niggles sorted (4k rattle etc) and a used '02 1.2. The 172 was totally faultless despite a history of track use and continues to be so in the hands of its new owner Fishy Dave, who also uses it on track a lot. The 1.2 has also been...
Moving abroad will not mean you escape the international problem of high oil prices.
The point about rural living are valid - I myself was brought up in Wales and appreciate what we often see as the "need" for a car.
The sad fact is that we don't have a right to live anywhere in...
Some of us have actually done that.
...and although we pay more outright for fuel in the UK, the %age increase in fuel prices in the US is much greater due to the lower tax, so they actually feel the pressure more greatly than us (i.e. fuel could go up 50% here, but 100% over there due to...
Dave (Smokey McPot) - let me know if No.123 comes back up for sale. As ever.
I'm going to look into the 197. I never really took to the Mk2s in the same way I did to the Mk1s (even though I had a Ph2 172 and currently have a Mk2 1.2), but I find the basic design of the Mk3 Clio is more...
Which model? I'm guessing you'd be after those of a 16V or Williams? 16V 0-60 in 7.7, 30-70 7.3 and 0-100 about 23 (Autocar); Williams 0-60 7.5, 30-70 6.5 or so and 0-100 in about 20 (Autocar again). I'd say that's fairly conservative for the Williams, since the figues were obtained from a...
Vote Conservative? Yeah - another Black Wednesday and high inflation / interest rates please. That'll put a minor car tax rise into perspective.
I'm glad to see Day's graph showing how motoring is relatively cheaper than at any time in modern memory. Sure, fuel and tax are always on the up...
I had a Williams, as well as a 16V and 172. The Williams and 16V both had induction kits put on them by me and sounded amazing (and much the same as each other) - they were much meatier in sound than my 172 with an IK and the sound wasn't just there after 5k rpm.
With standard airboxes on...
I used to have a mint Valver and then a minter than mint Williams. To be honest, this was nearly five years ago now for the Valver, but even at that point it cost a fair bit of time and effort to keep it looking good. I think with any old hot hatch you need to take your time and find a good one.
I don't think you can disable the code.
Could I therefore solve the problem by retro-fitting the central display console like you'd find on a Dynamique / Renaultsport model?
What do I need? Display and wiring?
Cheers. :)
I've just bought a basic standard Renault CD player to replace the tape deck in my other half's 2002 1.2 Authentique. Long story as some may know: I've had a series of nice cars over the years - including many of the hot Mk1 and Mk2 Clios - but am on a bit of a car detox while I have no parking...
I actually lived in Bristol between 1999 and 2003 as a student, so it's a kind of second home-coming for me. :)
I'm going to wait and see how this year pans out in terms of cars. There's absolutely no way I could keep a car to "Ben H" standards outside of the flat in Bristol (main road in...
I had a Ph2 172 last year. I bought a sound one from a forum member, before selling it on to another forum member.
I know that the exhaust has since perished on that particular 2002 172 with about 30k on the clock. Apart from that, the only other thing was that the airbag light would come...
Just thought I'd pop in and say hello to see how many of the Cliosport old-school were still here.
I'm moving to the centre of Bristol with a new job, so I've just sold my 300bhp Fiat Coupe 20V Turbo and am now using my other half's '02 1.2 Authentique. Talk about a step-down in performace...
I had Clio Williams No.123 for about a year, before selling it to Smokey McPot. Apart from the Ph2 172 I bought a year later, it was definitely the most hassle-free car I've owned - and it was certainly a more characterful car than the 172 was (although the 172 was fab in its own way). I went...
IIRC, the 20V Turbo versions come complete with forged pistons to start with, so getting upwards of 300bhp on standard internals is quite safe and many people over on FCCUK are running these sorts of figures. A couple of people are running over 500bhp, though are doing so using the Fiat / Alfa...
Thanks guys - relief! It gets used around town quite a bit, although has long runs every three months or so when I like the idea of 50mpg rather than the 25mpg my car gives. ;)
TBH, it's a relief in more ways than one because it looks like it may become our only car for a while. We're...
My other half's 1.2 8v Authentique ('02) runs and pulls fine, but I've recently noticed "mayonnaise" in the oil filler cap.
I'm a bit stumped because the coolant is fine, there's no mayo on the oil dipstick and the gasket looks fine from the outside.
The last oil change was about 8k...
Hello there my old south Walian chum,
Speaking as someone who once owned a Ph2 172 (Daipac's Monaco Blue one) I'd recommend them for hassle-free motoring. Mine was lowered on Eibachs and looked quite subtle, though clearly better than standard. Excellent comfort despite the springs - it...
So we need to keep this country exclusive to people who clearly can't spell and stereotype outrageously? I'm delighted and reassured to think that someone with your prose skill and logic is unlikely to be in a position of authority or influence in the community... unless intend to pursue a...
