Nor do Audis! If you want genuinely good build quality (not the perception of such from careful brand management), buy a Volvo.
I have an 02 Ph2 172 and have been extremely impressed with the integrity and running costs of the car.
Your best chance of owning a trouble-free 182 is to buy...
If you are having the standard wheels refurbished, have them done in silver. The easiest way to sell a car is to have it standard.
The price looks very fair!
Good to hear that youre thinking of returning to the fold Jon. :D
To be honest, I reckon theyre going to go very quickly, so having a test drive wont be an option - I bet 99% of people will buy them without one, which wont be a problem really as theyre guaranteed to be good.
Just make sure...
I went for an open filter because its the loudest youll get (and I certainly wouldnt buy and IK for power lol). Compared to my old 16V and Williams in particular, the open IK on my 172 is quiet. I think some is to do with the engine and some with the increased soundproofing.
Whoa!!! My old Williams was L 901 VLP. Must have been bought at the same dealership at the same sort of time.
Sounds to me as if the seller and you didnt click, rather than the car being dodgy necessarily. All the sellers advice guides say not to offer a test drive unless the buyer is...
Youll really enjoy both cars.
The Trophy is probably the peak development of the friendly-to-drive 172/182 series. Its guaranteed to be a blinding drive and should be easy to sell on because itll the top choice when buying a 172/182, just like the Williams still is with the Mk1s.
The V6...
I would imagine that whoever wants to swap their green Impreza for your 172 is looking to reduce their running cost - and considerably at that!
Theyd win with a swap like that.
I get the noise described here, since I also have a tight alley-way entrance to my drive.
Unfortunately Im now out of warranty, so is it worth getting fixed? It doesnt seem to be doing any harm otherwise.
Im lucky that my 172 had a pristine spare alloy to replace the one that just wasnt quite perfect!
Id imagine that if its a 182 "Cup" wheel, itll cost more than £40 to get a decent refurb done because the paint will need to be matched to the anthracite colour.
^^^ Just got the car back from the 24k service there and it was only £120! How cool is that?
They also asked whether my 172 was chipped as it "had some poke" (it isnt). The son of the owner, who is a forum member, has a Cup and the guy insisted it was definitely the pokiest 172 hed driven...
The 182 is the same as the Ph2 172, except:
- slightly different pattern on seats (very close though)
- silver seat belts
- cruise control standard
- different suspension settings (and again on Cup and Cup pack 182)
- no spare wheel
- twin exhaust (hidden on 172) and different...
The 182 has a free-er flowing exhaust than the 172, but Id be interested to see how much 182s make on the RR.
To guarantee 180bhp or over, youll be needing headwork if not cams I think. The standard induction and exhaust mods wont get you that far - and most chips gain very little on an NA...
Ha ha! I dont deal with Renault - Ive found two good independent garages (sadly both a faff to get to) who look after my car now its out of warranty for a fraction of Renault prices.
I bought a UK-spec parallel import 172 used and cant see why someone would mark an "import" down. The spec includes the Cat 1 alarm (with LED next to gear stick) and only misses out on the window etching. The Renault dealer didnt question any warranty claims in the 3rd year either - its money...
Im not very impressed by this thread. Top speed isnt what driving is about (especially not responsibly and safely).
Hope Im not sounding too much like an old man, but speaking from experience its all too easy to get self-centred in the heat of the moment and drive like a bit of a wally.
Renault Cardiff wanted £215 for a 24k service on my 172.
Ive found a local ex-Renault franchise specialist who will do it for £150, which I still think is fairly steep.
Try to buy a standard one from a good home. My parents and other half both have new-shape Clios, bought them new, care for them, get them serviced and will end up selling them with low mileage for less than a modified example. Look for one like these.
That one in the pic looks like its...
When I got my Ph2 172, it did feel like a bit of a step back at the time - what with having already owned 3 Mk1 Clios, coming from a Fiat 20VT (people usually trade the other way round lol!) and not feeling like a million dollars every time I drove it. I knew it was the right step though - and...
