Its all well and good having as much torque at peak as the hot hatch, but in order for the car to be flexible and rapid it needs to be able to call on the torque/power at a good range of revs.
The Willy makes not a lot more power or torque than the 16V on which its based, but it has most of...
Woots - would it be an idea to swap the front and rear tyres around? If the old ones are on the front, surely theyd be better on the back and to let the new ones handle the FWD power?
My point is that if you place a 1.2 Dynamique and a 172/182 together, the untrained eye confuses them. Most of my non-car nut mates would have difficulty picking them out.
But if you park a Mk1 1.2 next to a 16V or Willy, no-one would mistake them. A lot of this is to do with the fact that...
The Dynamique Plus was the regular Dynamique with higher spec (air con etc) - there were no exterior differences. The "+" name has been dropped now and Dynamique buyers can choose from six option packs instead. The "+" didnt have rear discs as standard - only 1.6, DCi 100 and Renaultsport...
The 185/55s wont be the same price as the 195/50s as you dont get the same economies of scale with the less usual size.
I reckon the 185s are about £50-100 extra for a set of four over the same tyres in 195. Im happy to pay that if it means I can keep the handling I enjoy so much. IMO its...
The 1.4 is a nice drive and a match through the gears for a lot of larger engined family cars.
If you do high mileage, then the DCi might suit. I think the message is starting to get through that a TD can be quick and fun to drive, but theres no hiding the fact that the 1.4 has a clear 25%...
I had 195/50/15 tyres on my old Valver - it cost me £160 at the time for four Yokos, so £350 for 185s is a lot even if they are Michelin!
The thing is that all the development work for the car was done with 185/55s and they definitely have more give and comfort in them than the 195/50s of my...
Nice tyres! I cant make any claims about the performance yet, but they look nice and are IMO the logical thing to fit to a Williams if you want to have some quality rubber from the original manufacturer. Cost me £350 fitted in the standard 185/55/15 size.
Although the garage said theyre...
Just watch the arches mate - its easy to do a job thatll last a few months, but usually a proper job costs a lot of money and involves replacing parts of the rear panel.
It depends what you mean by refined. Over a set of switchbacks or lumpy B-road, my Williams is the most refined car Ive ever driven in the sense that it conquers them with so little effort. In terms of "normal" driving, its a different case.
Even as a totally standard car, I dont think my...
The Valver will have a host of differences to do with gearing, torque spread and engine management that help make it different to drive. Remember that the 16V was, from 1991-93, Renaults homologation car for its flagship Group A rally exploits, using the 1764cc lump and most of the 16Vs bits...
Speaking from four years of 16V/Willy ownership, there arent really any weak links specific to the car apart from rear arch rust, wheel bearings, engine mounts and high labour costs arising from the fact that it has a large engine in a small bay.
Other than those, IMO the things that go are...
Fantastic. One of the few truly distinctive Renaultsport products of recent years IMHO given that its a Ph1 172 and is also yellow.
If I were to buy a modern hot hatch, that would be the EXACT one.
The part no. in question is 77 01 382 556. If anyone knows whether this part number is right for this wheel nut key Id be very, very grateful!

Cheers guys - very helpful, but some of it sounds like last resort stuff!
Imagine how chuffed I was when I dug out an old bill from 1996, which is for a locking wheel nut key! :D Unfortunately, on taking the part number/code down to Renault they said that the part number refers to a key that...
Nicky - it may be a Renault one. But I went to Renault and they said they couldnt find it on the system as the number written on it doesnt match up with any of theirs.:( If it helps, the key has "GB56" written on it. My Clio handbook has "990" as the locking wheel nut code.
Ive seen a couple...
Hello my friends (said in an overly friendly and cheesy way).:p
I went to get some new tyres today, but the garage couldnt get two of the locking wheel nuts off. Ive spent the day going around garages, but to no avail. The problems are:
1. The nuts/key are anonymous and old...
Id ignore any e-mail like that as its an easy way for a spammer to increase their e-mail address lists.
With all due respect, I dont think everyone has the deep understanding international fuel pricing and domestic policy to make strong calls such as those above. Not saying that I do, but...
Theres a mountain bike cleaner called "Muck Off". Its made by a company called X-Lite and comes in clear bottles (liquid is pink!).
I they now market it as a car alloy wheel cleaner too now. Ive used it for ages and it works a treat every time.
Ive seen some Phase1 16V alloys in white. They looked good, but thats because its an angular wheel with lots of detail. I also reckon a white set of Compomotive TH2s would look good in white as theyre the same sort of thing.
Im not sure the soft five spoke design of the Phase2 16V wheel...
My 16V had the leather and now I miss it in my Williams. Leather would have been out of place on the Williams though - it was a Group A rally homologation car. My Willy 1 also has no sunroof, manual mirrors, basic stereo and less soundproofing. But thats the whole idea!
The Mk2 Ph3 (as of Feb 04) also sees some different interior patterns, exterior colours, alloys, extra spec and the introduction of the 182.
My parents are buying a new Dynamique that will have the new front bumper, alloys, interior pattern and new Nordic Green paint colour (which looks more...
