    Is this right

Insurance groups mean less and less as time goes on - as they are, when theyre new, they take into account the cost of replacing parts as much as anything else. Over time they dont count so much due to the insurance companies building up more detailed risk assessments themselves through...

    overall build quality

Ive had three Clios. Just fine, as long as youre not expecting a hardcore hot hatch to be as solid as a Volvo if you thrash it every day.

Most Williams Ive seen strapped to a RR make over 140bhp ATW.

    ***WILLY WHEEL COLOUR CHANGE***

You might as well have them in silver and keep them that way - itll cost a minimum of £200 to have a good job done on them, so its expensive to keep changing your mind about colour!

    Willy engine into a Valver

I see what BenR means about revs being useful. Theres one particular set of corners on a screaming B-road near me that in my 16V you could exit in 2nd and change to 3rd at the red line once you were out of the corner - but in the Willy you have to change up just before the final corner, or...

    1.4 rt/ 1.8 16v

Yeah, the rear arches have to be bonded on and cutting them off a 16V or Williams would probably wreck them. The Valver also has a wider rear bumper - doesnt look much different apart from a recessed line that is lower on the bumper than on the standard models. Probably best not to go for the...

How much would I get (For Clio)

What you need to find is someone who really loved the look of the car. For someone like me (geek), its not really my bag - so Id pay peanuts for it. In the rights eyes though, Id expect £3k would be about right. I had a Mk1 1.2 that was modified (though not as much as yours) and I got...

    ZR160 VS 172

The Toyota engine will only be going into the Exige (spelling?) for now - and that will provisionally be the only model for sale in the US. The K-Series will continue to be the staple Lotus engine.

    Best Exhaust

Id go for a cat-back system, or even better, a full system. A back box alone will just look nice and last longer - might as well stay standard otherwise IMO. (just ditched a "bad boy" back box on my Williams and gone standard again. no difference)

    Willy engine into a Valver

Having gone from a 16V with a tuned F7P 1764cc to a totally standard Williams, Ive got a few thoughts about what theyre like in comparison. The first thing was that my 16V was making over 150bhp (128 ATW) so if you take the basic pub-talk theory, my Williams shouldnt be any quicker. But it...

Clio 16v De-Cat - Is it worth it

Agree totally. Best £50 mod for a 16V or Willy. Can make it sound like a Nova on part throttle at about 2-3000rpm.

    ZR160 VS 172

On the other hand and if you buy wisely, they make excellent cheap cars. I was recently offered my aunts new-shape 214i 3-door on a P-plate for... £1300!! Thats a hell of a nice car for that money - and more reliable than the family wreck Volvo 340 we had at the time (we always run one cack...

Just put std system back on...

Yeah, I changed over from the stainless back box that came on my Williams to a standard system. Theres no difference at all, although I expect that the original spec one will die a lot quicker. Having come from a Valver that had an IK, de-cat and stainless system I reckon that the IK makes...

    William’s 3rd gear

The Willy gearbox uses the same ratios as the 16V, apart from 5th. The gears themselves are bigger, the casing is tougher and the secondary shaft is more durable.

    William’s 3rd gear

I used to get about 90 out of my 16V and just over 80 in my Willy. All the intermediate gears apart from 5th are the same size, but the Willy revs about 800rpm or so less: in effect, the gears are shorter.

    New car

My Williams actually cost £200 less to insure than the 16V  Older cars arent assessed by insurance groups by most companies - theyll have enough experience of them to analyse which are the most likely to be crashed and most expensive to repair.

    Alright Chaps!

Hi mate Do a search for tuning the 16V. I used to have a tuned 16V (head, cams etc) and to be honest my totally standard Williams is a fair bit quicker. The thing about tuning a 16V is that you only really make power gains in the legendary 4,500+ power band. If you looked at a RR graph for...

MKI 172, Fiat 20v Turbo or Teg Type-R

From one Random Welsh Bloke to another: I looked into a 20V T Coupe in the summer. Great cars and devastatingly quick in a straight line, but very expensive to run if you get one that hasnt been pampered (£800 for an exhaust manifold when they split, which they do!). If youre hooked on...

Renault Stats for Car Test Program

Does the programe take account, for example, of the fact that a Willy makes 85% of the torque at 2500rpm? P.S. Most standard Williams make loads more than 150bhp! :D And OMG: the 16V and Willy are 8 inches wider than the 172! Woo hoo! Fat arches rule!

    History of the Valver

Phase 2 mirrors may look less agressive, but having gone from a P2 Valver to a P1 Williams, I can confirm that theres a reason for changing these things as you cant see jack out of the P1 mirrors. Useless!

    not a race, a questoin

Agree with the use of 4th. Youll not win many "races" if you only use 5th at those sorts of speeds.

    Engine bay steam cleaning

Id avoid it really TBH > you can get handy with some engine degreaser, a wet brush and rag to achieve the same (if not better) effect without endangering your electrics.

    History of the Valver

Autocar got 7.3 to 60 out of theirs in 1991. Its only one measure though. As an ex-16V owner I so miss that 4,500rpm kick - but there arent any measures that I can quote to show how cleanly a Willy will pull at only 2-2,500rpm.

    History of the Valver

The Clio replaced the supermini sized Renault 5 range in Europe during late 1990 and was introduced to the UK mid-1991. Of course, were interested in the hot model...Renaults 5 GT Turbo had enjoyed a reputation for giant-slaying and so its successor - the Clio 16V - had a lot to live up to...

    Williams Advice

Agree with Riplash. Youd probably make about £1500 from breaking the car, which is definitely not an economical option IMO. If the car is very original and/or has low mileage, then it would probably be a good idea to get the jobs done and then sell it for a tidy price. I know theres...
