Its a metal ring with teeth that the abs sensor uses to determine if the wheel is moving/how fast. Although by the symptons you describe I dont think it is the rotors. iirc you will have to take the drum off for the rear, on the front it will be on the driveshafts.
Does it pulsate/vibrate all the time? Or just when braking hard or at low speed?
Have you checked the abs rotors? Sometimes they can split and cause problems, check both the driveshafts and rear drums/discs.
The 172 radiator is different to other clio rads, most other clio rads are mounted via the sides of the rad, not the top & bottom. I also think the 172 cup radiator is different. iirc you have to take the front upper crossmember off and take it off from the top.
44k is pretty good. I take it broke at the join where the pipe goes into the box? Be very careful, if your accelerating hard or going over speed bumpes the paste stuff wont hold it.
Is it definatly coming from the cat? Have you checked the heat shields above the cat and around the manifold as these can come loose and vibrate/rattle.
Not really wierd or strange but more interesting. I found this out when I was doing a project on the Clio V6 at college.
The Clio V6 was developed by Renaultsport and TWR (the same guys that designed and engineered the jag XJ220). There were 3 black prototypes built in sweden by british...
Those washers are for the top of the suspension struts, they fit between the top of the strut and the top mount bolt. They stop the knocking when turning at full/almost full lock and are fitted to Clio V6's as standard.
There shouldnt be a problem, I once ordered a part from them (for a renault trafic) that wasnt as expected and they swapped it for a better one no questions asked.
If the gaitor is damaged/split it will leak grease on everything and the inside of the wheel, eventually when the driveshaft sheds all its grease and dries up the cv joint wears. If its just the gaitor kit its about £15 from renault, includes the gaitor, clips and grease.
If the cv joint is...
The apex ones are for 4. The trouble with Apex is after 12-18months they start to sag so your car will slowly lower itself more and cause more wear on your shocks.
It was a mk2ph1, even though its a 10 year old design when they crash tested it in 2000 it got a 4 star. There was a story a while back where somebody tried to commit suicide in a Clio by driving it off a cliff, but ended up surviving the drop.
Can you get someone to start the engine and you have a listen, see if it comes from the rear of the engine or the driver side near the belts. It could be the starter motor solonoid sticking if its from the rear.
The 182 has a 24mm roll bar (not sure what the 172 is). The track is also slightly widened and the suspension is strengthened but Im not sure how.
The 172mk1 rear axle is slightly different, it doesnt need the automatic thing for the headlight adjustment (assuming that is on the rear...
Renault sell the discs with bearings already in them, they are about £180 for the pair, or gsf sell the Renault items for about £150. They are easy to fit, you just need a 30mm socket to take the hub nut off. Its also recomended to replace the nuts at the same time.
Its not a torsion bar its a trailing arm supported by springs and shocks. However the words torsion bar and trailing arm are mixed in the trade. The whole idea of a torsion bar is that there is no springs.
Nice work, he/she made a good job of that. That idler always seems to be a weak point, its a bit exposed to the elements all the way down there.
How many miles has it done??? Thats the cleanest valve cover ive ever seen, normally they start to leak oil up through the bolts.
John I thought your car had the original 172mk1 cat? (The twin chamber cat). I always thought this cat was superior to the newer 172 cats as its a little less restrictive..
tbh I think you you maybe right about the valve. Heres what the standard one looked like:
DOnt worry about it mate, if renault are doing it they will use the correct tools and they will have access to the manual with the correct procedure. Just make sure they change the belt, tensioners, camshaft seals, aux belt and tensioner.
