I think your on about the locating dowel at the top left of your 2nd pic, you can remove it with pliers.

Valves look below flush mate? It depends how he mills it. If he fly cuts it all at once you will need to remove protruding valves, if he is using a milling head he can steer around the valves. Its better to have it fly cut as there is no chance of varying thickness /lips.

Basically a trade off between good performance and comfort if there is such a spring that can do both. As said I would consider removing them after summer if a certain spring was good for handling but rubbish for ride. A 30mm drop in height would be good too for COG.

4th year service on most cars is the big one, brake fluid, coolant, plugs, valve clearances(not common nowadays) Adjust wheel bearings if appropriate and some other vehicle specific checks usually. Its more than just an oil and filter that a 12k service is in Renault's case.
