well i know one fella whos just bought a new diagnostic machine he thinks may do renault immobiliser.
my crypton dosn't do it only lists up to 1.6's..
almost begrudge paying for renault to do it but i guess i'll have to see how it goes
anybody know what im looking at.
i have,,
matching ecu, uch, instrument panel and looms. and also the details and immobiliser code from the vehicle they came out of
also have what i assume is a blank new plip key still in the bag from renault
once the lot is bolted in if i were to tow it...
yep that will be the problem mate, sounds exactly like a earth fault
clip a jump lead from the chassis to the neg of the battery to confirm if you like
gates make renault belts..
dosn't mean to say its ok to get a gates kit though, most of the time yes, but i did a 2l focus cambelt not long ago i fitted a gates kit and it broke down a month later.
found it had no compression and on looking in to the plastic roller on the tensioner had seperated...
in my rush to throw the f4r on the engine stand i forgot to mark the flywheel,,,
i take it the 'missing tooth' on the pickup lines up with the tdc sensor when the engine is timed up at tdc with the timing pin in?
could somebody confirm this for me
cheers
i bought a cambelt kit for my f4r yesterday from euros - contitech belt and litens tensioner + idlers (same make as the renault ones that came off)... 72 quid inc vat trade.
then ive got to get to end caps from renault for about a tenner
i've read so many people saying only buy genuine etc...
its just occured to me i only need to undo the exhaust pulley on belt changes and that can be done using a normal pulley holding tool
may still buy the tools just incase of a head off job
its only started doing this since you put the head on?
compression test it again,, this will show up problems with tight tappets
could have knocked a valve setting the head on
does anybody have/know where to get the locking tool to hold the pulleys while cracking off the pulley bolts.
ive done a couple of f4r's in the past and i've just gunned the bolts off but seen as i've been doing a few more recently i'd like the proper tool.
also, just to make my life a tad...
lol.
had the sump off tonight checked the shells they dont look like they have done any work
nice clean oil in there.
so all back on gave it a lick of engine paint,, should be dry for tommorow/sat when i'll throw a belt kit on it and start to build it back up
you basically need the entire front end of the car give or take.
im having to mix and match due to wanting to keep the best condition parts on my car
if you have all the parts infront of you guarenteed i would quite happily do the job in 2 days
step one - dont bother, just buy a sport :rasp:
the way i've planned it the conversion itself should be the easy part, getting all the parts together is nothing short of a nightmare
undecided as im going to be putting cams in it eventually but im far to impatient to wait and save untill i can afford them before it goes in
may do the headowork then..
exhaust wise ive got 172 manifold at the moment a 172 cat i'll probably be going down the decat route dependant on how much...
it will be all built up ready to go in the car by sunday lol, thats if i decide not to pull the head off.
still undecided about calipers too im crap at decision making lol may end up going to hispec and getting some 4pots for 172 sized discs
yeah doing the belt and waterpump anyway got matched inlets to go on it.
already got a list as long as my arm of bits i need from renault not sure if a head set and bolts is going to push me over the edge a tad.
we shall see
any of you dialogys users fancy sorting me out some rough (only need...
never that bloody simple though is it, after quite alot of messing about. no a monumental amount of messing about,,, i finally have 95% of the parts i need.
engine arrived today, so went straight up on the stand for a bit of a clean
and my pile in the corner of the workshop lol...
its all...
its a bit of an all or nothing affiar to tell you the truth im still not 100% decided how to do mine
ive got both the full 172 running gear setup and the 1.2 lot but ideally want to keep the 1.2 stuff as i want to keep narrow track,,
cant use the 172 discs and calipers as the caliper brackets...
and no ptfe tape is no good, as its not the thread it leaks through its round the bolt head. and you dont want it round the bottom of the bolt head as you dont want it crushing and loosing torque again premature cam wear
normal rtv silicone will do the trick
red hylomar something like that,, but do one at a time as you dont want to brake the seal on the carrier.
and also they need to be torqued up (a must) as if you dont you'll end up with premature cam wear etc
best bet is get it to a backstreet garage and get them to plug it in, they'l only charge you 30 quid max and it will help you to isolate which component is causing the problem
few here and there yeh theres just been a bluewater meet. think the next thing we are doing meet wise is fcs and if i can get my car converted in time surrey rolling road
