Seen a couple of beauties this week just passed. Both were pretty much on the same stretch of road, M8 where its a contraflow now, near the Heart of Scotland services.
Wednesday Evening - A lovely Trophy. Looked in good condition. I was driving East, you were driving West.
Sunday Afternoon -...
Ey up.
Just wondering what options there are for a Ph2 172 catback exhaust that's available new, rather than having to scour the classifieds. Needs to be trackday quiet and preferably stealth type.
I don't think the PMS mates up to the standard cat so gets quite dear when you add the sports cat...
I've been doing a lot of work on the Clio and after taking it out for a test drive, the "kick" at 4500rpm wasn't there.
It pulled to the redline, and didn't have issues accelerating to 70mph but it definitely felt down on power. It drives fine, it just feels like its got 140bhp. Literally like...
Hi all.
Changing the oil on the 172 today and as I got the oil filter off, there was a long, flanged-hexhead bolt jammed behind.
Now have I been a dumb s**t when changing the alternator a few weeks ago and it’s slipped out during the wrestling-into-place? I’ve not driven the car since but...
Non- Clio content! Obviously not putting a 10.1" screen in my track car :ROFLMAO:
Getting a new daily shortly, and I'm looking into a decent head unit. I mainly listen to podcasts & metal music when driving to work, so I don't need crushing bass etc, and the car has a seemingly decent sound...
Car is a Phase 2 172.
Sat here daydreaming earlier and was wondering about the above. Now it’s not a general query, my car is already semi-stripped with a SW motorsports rear cage with harness bar, bucket seat, 6pt harness. Obviously other mods too, but not relevant to this thread.
The car is...
Clio 172 Ph2.
I'm very much of the mindset of "If it ain't broke, just enjoy using it". The PAS pump ran dry on a track day and is now noisy even when refilled. Did an oil change the other week and noticed the AC rad flapping around. Figured that explained why it didn't go as cold as it used to...
As above really.
Boiled the power steering fluid on track last summer and ended up bursting the pressure sensor. The pump pretty much ran dry, and was driven about 10 miles until it was refilled with new fluid (i.e. I drove it to Halfords, not 10 miles on track). Also, because I had many many...
I love my Ph2 172, but more and more parts of getting harder to get hold of.
I had a right carry on trying to source an ABS sensor, likewise with the bulkhead brake pipe in the engine bay. Now it needs a steering angle sensor and I'm finding the same.
There are a few out there in the Renault...
Just wondering what everyone is doing regarding sourcing steering angle sensors etc now they're getting like hens teeth.
Are they still made at all? Will one from another car fit? Car is a Ph2 172.
I’ve got a 172 ph2, 85,000 miles.
I knew it was weeping gearbox oil from the selector seals but the box has always been fine - never had a reason to worry. It’s not really been used properly in a good year since before Covid, so I decided to top up the oil. I found the plug on the front of the...
Has anyone put a heatshield on the brake pipe that goes across the bulkhead? If there is supposed to be one there its fallen off lol.
I've had to replace the pipe and don't fancy doing it again.
Nothing major, I was planning a velcro sleeve type like below, I've not got a turbo or anything to...
At the moment I have ditchfinders on my standard wheels, and 595RSR on my Team Dynamics Pro Race track wheels. These are literally for driving to the shops & to stand it on something over winter.
When I had branded tyres on the road wheels I drove to track days etc on them, but the cars barely...
Just wondering if anyone finds it useful having aftermarket water temp, oil temp & oil pressure gauges on their weekend toy/track car?
Obviously it’s helpful having an idea of what your engine is doing, but I haven’t seen a great deal of folk with them. Unless I haven’t been looking hard enough...
Got a ph2 172 with a braking issue.
Basically on first pedal press you get about half braking force no matter how hard you press. Second press however is great. Full braking force and good feel. This means that half the time you end up doing a pre-tap before applying the brakes.
Currently...
Got a strange ABS fault. Car is a phase 2 172, standard brakes and recent ATE fluid. Never been able to engage ABS, also the ABS light intermittently comes on, and when it does, the braking power is significantly less. Only recently noticed this connection. Presumed I'd just cooked the fluid at...
Car is a Clio 172, 83,000 miles.
I’ll be having my leaking front shocks replaced. Currently on KYB shocks and Apex springs. Since stripping the rear out the springs work a LOT better, and it handles a lot more predictably.
I’ll be changing to cup shocks. I have a few questions:
Is it worth...
Right then, I currently have Apex springs & KYB shocks fitted to my 172. They were on it when I bought it, and I don’t particularly like them. They’re not very confidence inspiring; if you go over a bump/uneven ground mid corner once the suspension is loaded up then the car doesn’t behave very...
Right then. A suspension upgrade is required. I'm currently on KYB shocks and Apex springs. They were fitted to the car when I bought it but I've gone off the idea of dying upside down in a field on fire. Also I suspect one shock is weeping oil. However it looks amazing. The ride height is spot...
Noticed some knocking/noises from the rear in my 172, especially when the suspension is loaded up i.e. long corner and a bump. Is this likely to be topmounts or the damper being knackered? Its on unknown lowering springs and KYB shocks.
Two questions here - I'll be checking my brakes (strip down and make sure nothings seized) as they seem to be a bit inconsistent (soft pedal, wont sto, then next minute squealing the rears)
Firstly, whats a recommended brake fluid for fast road & track use? From research I'm leaning towards ATE...
Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone can identify this splitter. Done quite a bit of searching, including reverse image lookups etc. Can only really find it on a BMW forum referring to a friend of a friend's Clio, and on the K-Tec blog. Is it a 'made to fit' item meant for something else?...
As above really, anyone got any recommendations on someone to change the start motor on a 172? I could take it to my normal garage I suppose but hoping someone who knows the cars could rattle through it in less time.
Anyone got recommendations for a car cover to suit the Clio 172? It won't be outside, the 172 lives in my workshop and I do a lot of woodwork so there's pretty much always dust on it. I blow it off with the airline but I'm thinking I'd be best off covering it up. Any recommendations?
Now, Speedline 2118s are by far the best looking wheel for the Clio, in my humble opinion, but I've noticed they're pretty heavy.
Lets ignore tyres for a second...
OZ F1: 9kg
Speedline 2118: 9.6kg
Team Dynamic Pro Race 1.2: 6.2kg
Enkei RPF1: 4.5kg
Obviously the Enkeis are significantly...
Just seen you drive past my work at the top of Dill Hall Lane/Church Lane in Clayton Le Moors.
Anyone here?
My 172 would have been at the side of the road.
Jim
Right then. For a while I owned this:
Loved driving it, ended up at quite a decent spec, 330bhp, coilovers, Spec C interior etc, but it cost me a fortune as a daily. Plus it was too scary having the best part of £10,000 (total I'd put into it) on track. I couldn't push myself. The main...
Hi all,
I’m looking to buy a 172 in the coming few months to avoid me ruining my 335d with track focused mods (also I don’t think a full leather interior, autobox and diesel engine will be as good as my last car on track!). In an attempt to avoid buying something simply to give me something...
