i think it recirculates some of the gasses making the car give better emmisions. im not sure what it will do if you disconect think it might eventually mess one of the 02 sensors up and put the warning light on dash up.

hi ya, i had similar problem, was making the noise only when idleing and was warm, its wasnt so bad when cold and went when i revd it but, i changed the oil plus filter and it went after a short drive. if its not that then it might be something like the vvt dephaser not sure tho.

ok cheers guys, ill take door card off but if i cant see anything obviouse ill have to take it to someone. i can physicaly lift the window up so im guessing its something to do with the motor just thought it was weird that it goes down no problem just not up.

hi, thanks iv just spent ages going through posts on charcoal cannisters and found a clip of someones and mine sounds exactly like his did, he said he disconected the charcoal cannister and it went to see it that was the problem, iv never heard of a charcoal cannister, anyone no where it is and...

no its not on start up, its fine when i start up from cold, its when its been running for a couple of mins. ill have a look at drRollo's posts tho thanks!

hi all, i have a 172 phase 1, when the car is on idle and only when engine is warm theirs a horrible rattley knocky sort of noise very hard to describe but my first thought was it was a tensioner bearing or something along them lines, gave it to mates dad who took aux belt off checked pulleys...

NO you cant mix semi synthetic with full synthetic, it doesnt mix well, their fine to run of semi so top up with whats in their untill you do next oil change then put 5-40 full synthetic in when you do this make sure you change the oil filter aswell.
