The way you have them is right, its only the small round one at the top that lights up. The bottom one is the rear fog lamp. I though it was actually better cause it gives the car a different look from behind

17s will go on no bother. MInes has 17 kahn RS-S, lowered 40mm and they are fine, only rub when i have 3 people in the back. My advice on an exhaust would be powerflow, you can have it customised.

I intend to keep the 1.2 for a few years just, as if i got a 172 now i would probly have to pay about 5 grand for insurance, i need to get my no claims and age built up first. But all the same i do enjoy my car.
