I thought changing the cable was going to be a nightmare but only took me about 30 mins in the end, unlike the garage which charged me £90 to fit a cheap one which snapped a couple of months later! Make sure you get a genuine renault cable though.
Tie a piece of string to the end of the old...
I had the problem with the oil gauges when I bought my valver. For some reason a diode and a couple of tracks on the PCB behind the dials had burnt out.
Really easy/cheap to fix as long as youre ok with basic soldering, get a replacment diode from Maplin or somewhere (I got mine out of an old...
Decided to have a go at changing the water pump on my valver myself but it seems to be turning out to be a big mistake. I thought it was hard releasing the tensioner pulley but now I’m having a nightmare with the lower alternator mounting nut. It just won’t budge and there isn’t enough room to...
Take the plug out of the temp switch which is goes into the side of the radiator (squeeze the sides to unclip it) and then just bend a paperclip and put either end into the plug. This should make the circuit to start the fan.
Yeah try the paperclip thing on the rad temp switch. if the fan was on when you popped the bonnet with the engine off it would be because that runs on a seperate higher temp switch for the anti perculation system.
Isnt it air in the system? Try turning the steering from lock to lock a few times with the engine off (easier with the car jacked up) checking the fluid level and topping up if it needs it.
Posted too soon! 5 mins later I’ve found a connection on the speaker is corroded to hell. 90% of problems with my 16v seem to be traced back to corrosion! Still, nice and easy to fix, was beginning to worry Id be taking the dash apart.
Have you checked your door connections Pete?
My LH door speaker isnt working after installing a new head unit but the tweeter in the dash is. Does the tweeter have a seperate feed right from the back of the head unit or does it split off somewhere behind the dash? Im trying to narrow down the problem to being behind the head unit or closer...
Take a look at http://www.moorhouse.f2s.com/1822A.pdfhttp://www.moorhouse.f2s.com/1822A.pdf it could just need some grease because the mechanism isnt working properly.
I know its probably not much use to you now but renault sell double union pipes to repair split hoses. I think theyre about £3.50 each.
Double union pipe 8mm 77 01 038 858
Double union pipe 10mm 77 01 038 859
Most probably incorrectly fitted cable or the wrong length. I think someone on here found his was too long compared to a genuine reanault part.
Also check the self adjusting mech is working properly. You are actually supposed to grease the notches so it catches properly.
I was thinking about doing it myself but not too confident. Is it the kind of job you can do on the driveway in a few hours or is it something that could take a while? The most complicated job Ive done so far is change the heater matrix and that was a nightmare.
When are you planning on doing...
Ive been putting it off but I need to change my leaking water pump.
Can anyone whos had this job done tell me how much it cost them and what kind of labour time to expect?
Thanks, Ill try the accelerating with the clutch down tomorrow. I forgot to say it also knocks quite a bit when going over bumps but doesnt seem to do anything on full lock.
When changing into a gear and putting my foot down I get a knocking. The gearstick moves a bit as well but this only happens when changing to 1st ,2nd and 3rd. I guess its an engine mount but which one? Would the dog bone only knock when decelerating?
The hardest part when I changed mine the other week was getting halfords to keep to their word. They kept telling me “we’ll have it in tomorrow”. In the end I used red instant gasket on BenR’s advice which seems to have worked fine.
I also sprayed it while it was off with some silver plasti...
Sounds expensive. I was really sure it was coming from the radiator but I suppose that could just be where it ends up dripping from. It has been making a squeaking noise from around that area when cold for a while.
Any ideas of cost? Is an electric pump a better idea?
