Using a t40 and I'm holding the disc in place with hands and feet while we use a 1/2 torque wrench and 3/8 hand wrench. Neither did the job. Given up and going to get the car collected I think.
Are these made of cheese or something? I've just bought the torx bit and managed to round two on one disc.
No idea what to do now as the car isn't going anywhere as it is.
Success! Wouldn't have had the balls to lever against anything with force but you all convinced me.
Used a breaker bar and straight in.
Thanks for the help, it's appreciated!
I'm using the renault widow maker and axle stands. So I take it I'll need to take it off the axle stand one side at a time temporarily with the renault jack, to allow the hub to drop down? I've not done a huge amount of work on the clio so forgive me, but when you say jack handle between the...
Old shocks and springs are off, new ones are together in the correct order, but I can't for the life of me get them back on.
I've got the car jacked on these points circled red here (not my photo):
For whatever reason, I can't get the hub holes and shock holes to line up and it's not...
Just bought a few bits from members on here. Both front cup shocks for the 182, pair of front calipers, buying some more cup springs as one of mine has cracked.
Next week order some brembo HC discs and pads.
Then get it serviced, MOT'd and taxed.
Then get it detailed, alloys refurbed and new...
Hi,
Firstly - its been 33k since last aux belt service, secondly (i presume) the belt, has been screeching on full lock.
Just a moment ago I parked the car at work and whilst trying to avoid full lock, the steering locked up twice. Is this the belt slipping and the power steering failing?
Car...
Hi,
My 182 had all of its belts etc done at 60,000 - and I'm approaching 93000 and will need an Auxiliary belt service soon.
What sort of price are we talking for this service? Can an independent be trusted?
Thanks!
Kris
Shock is attached at the top, pressing down with two of us we can hub into the shock opening, but the bolt holes are still half an inch away - there's no more give in the hub with us pressing down, its just the shock now.
Could the replacement shock be different to the old one? I've got cup...
Hi,
I've replaced my coil spring, but I cannot get the bolt holes to line up on the hub and shock. Its a good half inch away and almost could do with being compressed.
I've tried full lock in both directions, no luck. The only way I can get the hub and shock in line is directly above the CV...
Hi,
I've changed my caliper over, but struggled to unhook the handbrake cable from moving caliper arm.
I eventually managed it, but now I've put the new discs and pads on, I've got even less play in the arm to rehook the cable.
I've got the car up on axle stands, I've taken off 3 of the 4...
All sorted.
I ended up setting the alarm off again when I was loosening the clamps to get ready for a quick change over.
Had to put up with about 30 seconds to a minute of noise.
Does the alarm have its own battery supply or something?
Hi,
Car (182) has been off the road for about 4 months, didn't disconnect the battery, managed to bump start it but after 30mins of driving it still wouldn't start.
Bought a new battery, but I can't disconnect the old one without the alarm going off.
I also can't lock/unlock the car on the...
Yeah, it's an EZ Bleed I'll be borrowing.
So I'll clamp the brake hose, remove the caliper, re-attach, bleed with the kit.
One thing I'm unsure about is the handbrake cable. Is that fairly straight forward to remove and reattach to the caliper?
Hello,
I've never changed a caliper or bled the brakes before, not been driving for long so I'm trying to learn to make things a bit cheaper.
My rear o/s caliper had seized and I've got a replacement being delivered tomorrow.
My main question really is will the whole system need bleeding? I...
Sliders were stiff but moving smoothly now. However the piston is firmly stuck. I've opened up the brake fluid reservoir, liberally sprayed brake cleaner and had a good go with a flat head (clockwise) and nothing.
I'm either doing something wrong or it's seized up.
Used caliper it is.
I'll have a try at freeing up the piston tonight. Is there anything you'd recommend at cleaning it out before I grease it up and replace the dust cover? If it still seems like it's sticking I'll grab another from renparts.
Hello,
I've learnt the hard way, it seems my rear offside pads have been rubbing quite heavily prior to me putting my car off the road.
Got it back on the road yesterday and took it for a drive.
First mistake was not checking all the brakes and seeing if the wheels spun freely.
Coming back...
Yeah, was a silly mistake. The car rolled happily enough when we were bump starting it, and there wasn't any audible rubbing noises, but I guess there was enough friction to cause it to heat up.
I thought I'd cocked up, because I didn't mention I wanted it taxed from the 1st of July. But the tax disc says 31/12 so I guess you don't need to ask.
I didn't think this car would be particularly expensive to run. But in the year and a bit I've had it, I've had a £500~ MOT failure, £100 for...
:( Just reinsured and taxed the 182 after having it SORN'd for 4 months.
After bump starting it and driving steadily for 30 mins I was on the last stretch before home and I thought I'd test the brakes.
*thud* *ting* *ting* *ting*
One of my rear mintex discs is now in two pieces. I'm guessing...
Tyres do look a bit sorry for themselves. Engine started up (just about). Brakes look and feel like they need some usage!
Should be back on the road next week, with an alloy refurb and a good clean to follow.
Hi.
The car has been SORN'd for about 3 months. I know this isn't a long period of time, but is there anything in particular I need to think about before I take it out?
It hasn't been driven at all, so battery may well be flat.
Thanks,
Kris
Thanks guys, ordered from Renault, should all be sorted Wednesday. £15ish for two inc VAT.
I have a feeling one was shattered, giving the reason for the bearing going I guess. But the other side didn't have one at all - no give in the disc either. Odd.
One thing I'm a bit concerned about...
Took off the old discs and pads, fitted the mintex discs & put on the old abs ring, took it for a test drive and the discs are rubbing on the inside (sloped bits on inside of disc against the casing where the disc mounts onto). Doesn't seem like there's enough clearance and it needs a washer...
