Using the clio as much as possible on the lead up to Spa to try and iron out any gremlins.

I think I mentioned that I was struggling to get the PMS shifter setup right. Fiddled with it today and it’s much nicer. Perhaps not perfect yet but a lot better.

Still having a strange situation (mostly between 3rd and 4th) and at the top end of the rev range only where it sounds almost like it’s crunching into gear, but I can’t say there’s resistance and there’s absolutely zero issues on down shifts.

Worth noting that @NorthloopCup has been amazingly helpful. I HIGHLY doubt it’s the box.

Weird it’s only on high speed upshifts and mostly 3rd to 4th. Never an issue on down shifts.

Wondering whether it’s just resonance from the shifter. Bloody thing. I’ll fiddle with the linkage a bit more tomorrow, maybe it’s that…. Thing is, so much was replaced etc it could be anything and I’m on powerflex dog one and evol box mount. Which has meant all the previous markings for setup are miles out….

Anyway, chucked a wash mitt at it and took some photos, because that’s what I do.

Sounds like that rattle/resonance at high rpm.

What does it feel like through the shifter?


Having to really tune in to it. Feels like resonance/vibration through the stick. It’s fairly sudden and only right at the top of the range going to 3rd and 4th.

Am wondering if it’s the pms doing pms stuff

They sound a lot worse when grinding into gear.

You can get the damper weight for the shifter rod, but not sure how well it works.

I know people have filled the shifter with lead shot to dampen it that way.

I have everything BUT the boot filled with grease.

So the rod is filled with lead shot. Merlin motorsport upgraded bearing. Replaced all bushes and such with new from pms.

f**k the lead shot off and just fill a boot with red rubber grease and cable tie it off.

The lead shot causes more issues as it adds 'throw'

I had lead shot in mine, it was fine. I also covered the selector rod with heat shrink. That made the biggest difference in my option as it stopped the resonance.

Which bit are we talking about here mate ?
The rod that connects the shifter to the gearbox linkage. I filled mine with lead shot, covered in a thick heat skrink to insulate it. Filled the rubber boot with grease and then wound deadened the shifter tower. Heat shrinking the rod was the single biggest difference in my opinion/experience.
