172/182 drivers

just done a 1 week survey....... waved to all sport drivers....

15 in all.... just 3 waved back..... and its us that are stuck up are own asses. ( not )

so as honoury member of the UMOA club i will offer a splinter group ....

called the JAFFAS.......

( NOT ALL THO... SOME DID WAVE )

or it may be that most people who have bought the car dont actually recognise that there is a club and a mutual agreement to wave

i know i dont wave at someone unless i know them

its never going to be the same as people with camper vans, where they all wave and flash back at each other

ok point taken... but clio sporters wave at each other.. ive seen them... but they dont wave at me... they just look the other way...

you lot always wave mate... nothing wrong with the RT brigade mate....

most of the mk1 lads nearly crash when i go by... quite often stop and talk to them on Exmouth seafront...

i had a similar experience...

passed someone in another black 182 parked at the side of the road. Bit further on i stopped at some lights and he comes screaming up alongside me.

Ooh fair enough i thought, this should be fun. So i nodded and smiled in a friendly manner. Him and his bat-faced gonk girlfriend just sneered and screamed off at the light change.

I know someone with a Smart pram car and theyre always waving at each other. It may just be a need for reassurance or just plain embarrassment but at least theres some kind of bonding thing happening

When I was in Fort William I seen a 172 pass. When I was passed I flashed my brake lights to say hello but got no response. What I did get though was noised up all weekend off the fiance asking me to teach her Clio Morse Code, asking to be in my special gang etc. She just doesnt understand

I occasionally see 182s etc going the other way, but by the time Ive seen them, theyve gone!

Had great fun following a Cup up the A34 for about 10 miles though, overtaking each other (that was ages ago).

pmsl - Id never have my hands on the wheel in London!!!

No one has ever waved at me although Ive spotted a few - and, living in London, most of them would probably think wtf if I waved at another Clio if I didnt know them!

maybe they know eachother but not you? I think its more of a done thing with people who have more exclusive cars. Imagine if VTR drivers started doing it you wouldnt be able to see for flashing lights!

I flashed a woman in a silver 172 on Friday (headlights only, of course...) and waved as she passed and she just looked at me totally confused....

Bryans summed it up and taking it one stage further (perish the thought) - some RS owners may just be using their cars to get from A-B and dont fully realise what they are driving???

Unlikely, but it could happen.

iv done this and only had one flash back and thats from about 20-30 times!!

i was right behind another 172 and flashed him and no acknowledgement despite me gan past him and looking right at the rear view mirror. Ah well!!

saw a few yesterday when out and no flashes back on the a92 back to edinburgh

I once flashed a V6 and the driver aknowledged it by nodding at me. I wave at mini (non bmw) drivers and they always wave/flash back at my Clio. http://www.cliosport.net/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif

Been getting waves/thumbs up off most of the 172/Cup/182 owners Ive seen in the last week. Had a Mk1 owner literally trying to leap thru his window when he saw me on the way to work today

Perfectly normal to nod the head to other motorbike riders, or give a victory vee sign (though more dangerous, especially when scraping the knee on the ground) ... makes you feel like you are part of a masons club or something!

I always try and acknowledge other 182 owners (172s are harder to spot!), however this is mainly to see what type of person has bought the same car as me (i.e old codger, granny, fit bird, yuppie, etc.). So far, I have spotted very few here in Madrid.

When I was young my mate had a bright orange beetle and hed always flash at other bug drivers, I thought he was really sad!
Now Im driving a bright orange clio 182 with the cup add ons and I always flash and wave at other 182s, what comes around!!!

Ive flashed headlights or fogs at a few 172s/182s on the motorway and if I see one in town I will always look and nod if they look back, but they never do, must think Im weird or something. Had more of a reply from a young asian girl in a silver Mark 2 Phase 2 1.2 with 17s on (which seemed to be the only mod).

We need sticky flyers, like, balls of glue with a flyer attached to one side so we can throw them at passing modded/sport Clios.

I agree Clarkie, every 172 owner i have acknowledged have not responded. Tut, ive given up with them, far too many about anyway!

I have spotted about 4 valvers and every single one has waved or given thumbs up! Also, a few Williams owners have waved.

Ive never seen a V6 on the road, if I saw a blue mk2 V6 Id wave / flash with a huge jealous grin on my face!

When I had my 205gti Id wave and usually get a wave back from other gti owners, was a bit of snobbery from mk2 golf gti drivers which always amused me...

I usually wait to see if the person is gonna acknowledge me before I wave or flash another RS. Often they dont, Ive seen a lot of people driving 172s who probably arent enthusiasts and heard about a few in 182s too.

Cuop owners youd think would have to be enthusiats eh?! But theres a girl i see in a 172 cup quite a lot and never get any response...
