172 concerns/over paranoia

Hi. I'll start the engine in the morning no problem and sounds normal/correct but once it's warm it seems to be making a noise it could be a rattle but I'm not 100%! Then when I'm sat idle the noise/rattle is there but as soon as i get to 1500/2000 rvs it's all fine!

Also every time I press the clutch in it makes a squeaky kinda noise!

Basically has anyone had this and is it easily fixed? or am i pretty much waiting for it to break?

Squeaky clutch is normal.

The rattle is a f*cked de-phaser pulley.get it sorted out mate or it could spell the end of your engine

As stated, clutch is normal to squeak. The rattle sounds very much like the dephaser pulley.

I would get it looked at asap tbh.

Just be aware that not everyone has a good experience. NW Performance is the company I see the most complaints about when browsing this forum. Have a read through previous threads before making up your mind.

A quick update on my quotes -

Best Renault dealer quote - £ 900 inc vat - cam belt kit, water pump, dephaser pulley, oil and filter change.

1st specialist - £ 780 inc vat - aux belt, cam belt kit, water pump, dephaser pulley, oil and filter change plus a full service with all spark plugs, air filter and pollen filter.

2nd specialist - £ 740 inc vat - cam belt kit, water pump, dephaser pulley, oil and filter change but don't think it involves a full service as i totally forgot to ask.


Do you guys think these are reasonable, steep or cheap?

I've no first hand experience of North West Performance, but they've had a shocking reputation on here in recent months.

Whoever is quoting what, don't sack off peoples previous poor experiences just for the sake of £40. Slippery road to doomsville

Birchdown m8 do it with a service and all that for around that price, plus great reputation and talking to steve about what he's doin with his 172 cup is always a great listen

Birchdown is in malpas cheshire. If you can get your car there, do it i cant speak highly enough about them.

My fault i miss read it as Birchwood lol, I've found Birchdown and will try get a quote off them and as i live in cheshire they are only half hour away.

I used birchdown for aux and cambelt kit, dephaser pulley, no water pump as it had a recent one, service and that came in at £6??. Great fellas, I borrowed their van for the day too! I think they're great, not sure how great as I've got nothing to compare them to. But my mind is assured in the knowledge that they are good at what they do

If I'd of gone somewhere else I'd constantly be thinking the worst
