172 cup - anyone had problems with the alternator keep un tensioning

Mine seems to like doing this, alot, going to use nits with a nylock element in them, but not sure what else to do

common ?

you talking about the small nut on top, near the radiator, mine used to do that, i even put 2 nuts on it, ans still one of them completely disapeared, think they just vibrate loose

+1 My nut broke and the alternator came forward and fractured one of the air con pipes. Replacement pipe = £106!!!!

I have just re-tightened mine , better go have a looksee if the second nut on the tensioner is still in place after reading this

Never had problems, only when they changed the belt last time i was getting a squeel every time on startup. Was'nt given the right tension so i tightened it some more.

im with danny that nut dosn't even need to be there
you could do away with that nut completely tension the belt with a lever bar and aslong as the rest of the alt bolts are correctly tightened it will never move

cheers people, another issue to hopefully sort :)

im talking about the small 10mm nit, on the threded bar which the 2nd alt bolt fixes to btw for those confused :)
