172 cup Oil sump

right tried doing oil and filter change last week but the feckin sump plug a cudnt get off,tried every size of ratchet we had cos its just a square insert,WTF is it a special tool needed or something,renault tryin to make more money by putting things on it needing special tools to take it off.

8mm square sump plug key, available from any halfords or motorfactor, less than £5

Your right it is a special tool required. You can pick them up from Halfords for a tenner.

It's just a standard 8mm square. Same as on a huge amount of cars these days.

never in my days of working on cars have a came across anything like this,always been a socket fit or torx fitting.

yep 8mm square, just go down your local motorfactors, bound to have them! or you could do it pikey style like i did and grind an allen key down to fit.
