172 Cup Steering Wheel Puzzle!!

Guys, viewed a 172 Cup tonight, really nice car and I'm pretty close to buying it to be honest.

One thing puzzled me though and the penny didn't drop until I was driving home.

It didn't have a leather steering wheel, it had a rough plastic item, thumb grips were present and the centre was identical, but the wheel itself was an embossed plastic. I've not come across this before on any RS Clio I've viewed.

Any ideas? I thought they came with a leather wheel as standard?

Was the leather embossed? I've looked at the pic I have of the inside of the car, it has stitching where you'd expect to see it! Although it still looks very embossed around the outside to me, anyway, I've fired the question off to the owner, it may have a (very well fitted) cover on it!

Its just a standard (read as well deteriorated) Renault sport steering wheel.

No, it's in very good shape, looks near new, must just be the embossing, I'm used to viewing them with bald steering wheels! The thumb grips are spot on too. It's a low mileage car though.

Has it been re-trimmed then?

If you look at the 5 o clock position on the wheel, (under the clutch pedal) it looks as rough as a badgers ass!

I know, this is what threw me! It's like that all over, deeply embossed! You can see that where the leather meets the centre capping it's the same. The car is low mileage with impeccable history, I've no reason to doubt it's a fabulous example, just been thrown by the wheel! I'm trawling the net for clues!

Looks like a standard wheel, maybe it had a terrible wheel cover, looks normal to me tbh. You will be hard pushed to find one with a mint wheel

Still bothering me this wheel issue! I'm viewing the car again tomorrow so will have a good look at it!

Buy the car and get the shitty thing re-trimmed by Arran.

50/50 split then, I'm viewing again tomorrow, hopefully get to the bottom of it then, it has the original sale stuff with it.
