172 DIY Magnex fitting - whats involved

Anyone know whats involved with fitting? Is it simply a matter of unbolting the old one behind the Cat and bolting the new in place? I understand that you need to cut the old one off near the rear axle as in the factory its fitted as a one piece system before the axle is offered up to the car. Not bothered about hacking it off as its fecked anyhow. Must admint Ive never paid mucho attention to the exisiting exhaust system so I wouldnt know what it looks like ATM. Im pretty handy with a spanner so Im willing to give it a go though. Also would a pair of axle stands be enough clearance to work under the car or is a pit necessary?

Cheers

Ive fitted loads of exhausts... its easy...

Just jack it up, sit it on axle stands and away you go!

When mine was fitted by Demon Tweeks they cut the OE 172 exhaust in two to get it off. However, Fred managed to get dogmauls off in one piece. It may be worth dropping him a PM.

If the old one is knackered then I dont suppose you have anything to loose!

Sounds far to easy! Is it simply bolted to the CAT with two bolts? Ill have a butchers tomorrow when its day light - then Ill make a decision as to whether Ill get one on order and set aside a Sunday - Ill change the oil while Im down there! Any idea how long it should take? Couple of hours sound about right?

Lee M - zorst is fecked with the 4K rattle so rather then winge at Renaut to fix for the second time and then it go again - Im just gonna cut the b*****d off!

Fitted my new Magnex last weekend. Me and a mate had a go. Besides it being a little fiddley getting the back box on (and damm cold!!) it was a breeze. Bye bye 4K rattle!

Anyhow heres a pic:

Its hanging a bit low (about 30mm) from the bumper and one of the heatsheilds is rattling slightly at low revs so Ive got some adjustments to make this week-end. Shouldnt take too long though. All in all pretty pleased with the sound, allthough its louder in the car than I expected - god knows what some of the other systems are like as from what Ive read most seem to think the Magnex is quite restrained in comparison!

Many thanks chaps and a big thanks to Fred for the instructions he sent through - worked a treat mate.;)

Will a magnex cat back system put an end to the 4k rattle??

And is £329 about right for one fitted?

4K rattle on mine has now gone! So yes.

And £329 sounds OK inc. fitting I reckon. I got mine for £306 from Demon Tweeks with Club discount.

thats why it hung down a bit low at first because the magnex is supplied with an extra exhaust mount/bracket.
