Theres a Mk2 172 on autotrader at the mo for 4750..
I am tempted cos its so cheap, but its got no SH, but the seller said it had a cambelt change 20k ago and has the reciepts for that..
its also done 80k...should I stay clear?

i bet you could pick one up with a SH with a few less miles on it for 5k, if you look around and bargain hard. My mate just sold his 51 plate 172 with full SH, only 31,000 miles, mint condition for 5.5k

  Turbo'd MX-5 MK4
for little over a grand more you can get one with half the mileage and FRSH. (mine is in the for sale section) so I wouldn't call it cheap.

My car doesnt have full service history for the first 3 years of it's life - does that mean it's fucked?

No!

Check it out yourself mate, thats my advice.

Just think....................your not sure if you should buy it, so when YOU come to sell just think of the hassel your going to have.

Stay clear, save up & buy a good one!!!!!!!

  Whichever has fuel
service history doesn't mean jack s**t nowadays i'm afraid. I could go on Ebay and buy any manfacturers rubber service stamp, pop along to a dealer and buy a service book and VOILA!! one Full main dealer service history!!

Just check it out yourself mate, its the only way to tell a dud from a good-un.

  No more clio's for me!
Need to check it out mate, you'll be able to tell straight away if its a rotter or not. I don't get my serviced by Renault, because i don't trust them with my car, so a FRSH means bugger all imo.

  Lots of Alfas
The car is worth checking (how it runs etc, he may have serviced it himself) for that price, but best to be wary of a performance car with no service history. You dont want to fork out the cash and then the engine goes pop.

Agree...it seems Renault servicing is pretty c**p.

As a lot of people have said....check it out, you can usually tell if it's had a hard life or not.

I totally agree. Renault service history doesn't seem to be much to brag about these days. It is more likely to go wrong (in my opinion) if Renault have had their mitts on it. I would go take a look at it, and as the others have said you should be able to tell if its a shitter or not. Don't be blinded buy the guys possible gift of the gab, use your knowledge and hints others have given you, and go by that. Good luck.
