182 Cruise contril

  MY10 R35 GTR
alrighty guys,

im just bout to hit 9k miles which means cars going in for a wee check up. So i decided to make wee list of things I've picked up on since I got the car in nov.

one thing I only just picked up on was the cruise control. Sorry if this sounds confusing

here we go an example.. If im on the motorway and put the CC on at 70 on the digital read out, according to my speedo clock im doin 77! Same with any other speed, the speedo clock always seems to show that im goin 5-7 mph qicker than I set it.

Is this just a wee clio characteristic or a fault?

I'm not a keen user of the CC but if there somit aint rite and the speedos out im no wanting to get caught by and Cops.

all advice accepted.

Same with mine... think the speedo shows slightly higher MPH. My road angel is the same as the CC and thats GPS so im guessing the speedo is slighly innacurate.

Mine is out but only a little cc=70 Speedo=68 Gps=68

So in my case speedo is accurate, cruise is wrong.

Also the same with the Speed Limiter.

Speedo's (on all cars) are 10% inaccurate in general... In addition the ECU on the clio factors in KPH irrespective of what it says on the dash in MPH... Therefore factor the two together and you an see where the inaccuracy is...

You can't rely on either the speedo or the dash computer being right on a Clio Sport. Any Clio Sport.

Renault engineers are lazy slack b*stards who just can't be bothered getting all the little engineering things like them right. Even the cheapest cars from other manufacturers are better. You have to assume its deliberate because everything always reads in the direction that makes the car look better than it is. Higher speed. Less fuel. Better fuel consumption. Etc, etc.

With Clio Sports you have to compare them on a car by car basis to things you can be confident are right. GPS will tell you how far out the speedo is. Keeping tracking of how much fuel you put in the car will tell you how far out the dash computer is.

My speed reads high by 6 km/h at low speeds - about 10%, which is supposed by law to be the MAXIMUM they're allowed to be out - increasing to about 8 km/h at motorways speeds. So its not a straight percentage that makes it easy to correct for using using mental arithmetic.

i stay away from my cc, the first and last time i tried it I coul'nt get the hang of it . So I leave that button well alone

A bit harsh Gordon. All cars are pretty much like this WRT speedo accuracy. In fact if anything, i think the Clio is better than many cars i've used in that respect.

I love my CC,couldn't live without it doing 150 miles a day. Mine is out by 4/5 KM/H but nothing worth grumbling about.

I love my CC, use it every day on the M1. Its great being able to overtake with just your finger.. jam your thumb on the + button and the car takes off! Just dont relax to much and keep you foot near the brake!! lol

The day after I got my car, I went to swansea, throught port talbot, where its 50 on the motorway. I pressed a button on steering wheel and car decides to accelerate at full throttle. Not the best place to figure out how to use it.

Its great fun for holding at 40 in second with speed limiter then pressing the O and it launches!

Only used it properly once - when I drove from north of Manchester to my m8's wedding just outside Worthing. Came in real handy then. I do switch it on every now and then also - just to relax my right foot!

Try this then:-

get yourself up to 70mph according to the needle and stay there at that speed, push the stalk button till it tells you the average speed in mph. push the reset button on the dashboard next to the dials. Keep the car at a steady speed and see if the average speed is higher or lower than the needle. Mine is 1 -2 mph out ( the digital is slower than the needle)

mite flag it up then just to see what they say or do. See what happens. I dont like usin CC on busy roads as havin foot hovering over the brake aint the cumfiest.

But on a quite motorway.... MAGIC

Jason sounds too far out IMO regardless of speedo error, mine shows maybe 1 or 2mph difference on the speedo to the cruise control, 10% error there isnt right, tell them to check it.

upto 10% error between physical speed and displayed speed is generally accepted but the cruise control should be accurate, so ur speedo's probably out more than anything.

I use the CC all the time and love it when I'm coming up behind someone. I cancel the CC and coast nicely up behind the car infront without having to slow down with the brakes.
