Cake and clutches… what a night. New clutch isn’t too heavy either so let’s see how this goes.

It’s been a while. New clutch in, then the wheel bearing went. Does mean the Clio has been chilling too much this year. Hope we can get out a fair bit now on track.

All fixed today, back on the road. The Advocult Motorsport splitter was re-fitted.

Got a bit carried away, cleaned/ polished the headlights, cleaned and ceramic coated the car, then wrapped the bonnet as I was fed up of the primer grey.

Whilst the colour was just what we had, it looks much tidier now and ready for the next track day.

Just needs to wheels aligning now.

This car is insane fun.

Performed amazingly all day. One of the best days on track.

Only job will be to change the camber on the front as the current bolt was limited it. Caused some understeer that I didn’t really want! Anglesey track killed the front tyres, but mint day!!

Great thread, enjoyable read! Can I ask what brembo brake kit you have on there and where you got it from? I've got a track clio on the same black team dynamics 15's. Stripped with cage. It's got Carbon Lorraine CL5's and braided lines but that's it at the moment. They are good but want more. Like at the top of the hill on the back straight at Angelsey just don't have enough confidence to stamp late.

It’s a Megane kit on mine, the calipers are machined a little (about 5mm) to make them just clear on the wheels.

Honestly… Vs normal Clio brakes the difference isn’t huge, just find them a little more consistent on longer runs, plus the weight saving is a positive!!

I’ve generally always used Ferodo Ds1.11, can’t complain to the power of them

Thing have been a bit quiet on the Clio front recently. I’ve been chasing a noise from the left hand side since the last track day.

New parts include:
- front wheel bearing
- changed the ns driveshaft for a shorter ph1 shaft
- new rear brake discs
- service front shocks
- new pads (ds 1.11)
- new tyres (Ar1 205/15 front // 195/ 15 rear)
- general strip and rebuild/ grease etc.
- wheel alignment / camber

But we’re getting there and plan to be back on track end of the month.

Also, I’ve now moved to a new unit to live indoors. Now it’s there, gives me chance to do a load of small jobs I want to do to tidy up the build.

- jacking point tidy up
- remove side skirts and clean
- relocate battery / fit kill switch
- fit jack webb battery
- remove all air con/ heater
- fit T7 heater
- remove redundant weight behind the dash
- refit aerocatches

If the cash allows this year:

- buy/ fit the front part of the roll cage
- buy/ plumb in a fire extinguisher
- buy pms air con delete bracket

Been great having space to work on the car indoors. Loads of jobs done ready for its next trip to the track.

Pure Motorsport Aircon delete kit fitted with new Gates belt.

New pedal covers fitted with slightly larger accelerator pedal. Really easy fix, but a nice pedal feel when driving on the road.

Splitters fitter again, cars cleaned, and a visit to A-Line to sort the alignment, maxing the camber as much as possible.

Fitted some new Nankang AR-1s ready for the next dry track day.

If anyone knows how easy it is to delete the airbag modules completely, let me know!

Donington Park 28th January.

Wet and wild day at Donington Park, but insane fun. About 1000 Red flags couldn’t spoil the fun (I think I was lucky with my timing going out).

The car felt amazing in the wet, the front was nicely balanced and the gripper diff made for some insane grip levels coming out the corners, considering the weather it was going well. Bit of a tidy up and refit the correct alternator bolt and we should be back out next month.

Had a mini drama when the lower alternator bolt came loose, but a “bodge” kept it all together and out on track. Some good fun chasing some decent cars. Nice to chase some other Clios (there was a nice Racing Blue Clio)

Chickens Clio was going well until his alternator wasn’t alternating and he ran out of electricity.

The Golf was flying, new wet tyres came into their own laying down the insane power!

Cleaned and checked over from Donington.

Started to replumb some of the electrics inside to tidy up the loom.

Reinstalled the alternator properly with the correct sized bolt.

The lower alternator bolt for a Clio 172/182 is a M10x110mm if anyone is looking (difficult to find that info!!).

Will do an oil and filter change this week, just cus it’s been a couple of track days since I did that.

Late decision to go to Oulton Park on Saturday. Car wasn’t really prepped, but too nice a day not to go!

Started the day with an issue in the battery was totally dead and not charging. Resulted in an embarrassing moment of the Clio stopping on the sighting laps. Quick trip to the local auto parts store and a new battery fitted.

After this the car was incredible, such a good day. Out of the slow corners the car felt a little sluggish- i think this may be down to the thicker oil I used, so may switch back to stock product.

Managed to get my best lap down to a 2:01.24, but there was a little more, just a busy track day, so no really clear laps. Great fun though.

Sunday:

I decided it was time to put the car on a diet, as it’s not going back to a proper road car, took out a few pieces- radio/ passenger air bag/ some of the unused loop and sound deadening.

Time to fit the Jack Webb lightweight battery and lightweight heater now before its next outing.

Then toying with replacing the glass with polycarbonate windows. Can remove the electric windows then.

Well that escalated… thought I’d remove the passenger airbag, then start fitting the new battery…. Then removed a lot of things that I don’t need. Interesting game of finding all the screws that hold the dash in. The sound deadening behind the dash weighs a tonne (and is a pain in the bottom to remove).

Still need to finish fitting the battery, trying to find a nice route through the firewall without drilling more holes in the fire wall. Plus fit the cut off switch in the car. Waiting on a “dash pod” from Racing Cult too.

Then after that time to remove the heater and replace it with the T7 unit I have if I get chance.

Now time to try out back in what needs to go back. Plus fit the T7 heater.

Polycarbonate windows purchased too, just need to figure the best way to remove the rear side windows. Any ideas?

Rebuild started. Clios look quite good without window wipers…

New battery installed nearly and wiring routed, ready for when the dash goes back in.

Sound deadening removed, just need to remove the residue. All holes taped up with aluminium tape for now to stop some of the draft!

Most of the interior that’s going back in is in, T7 heater and ducting is installed.

Decided to go full stupid and fit polycarbonate windows too (ACS Clio Kit).

Not too difficult, just time consuming. Used a wire kit to remove the rear windows (annoying job).

Still some bits to do inside then I’ll take the protection off the windows and see how it all looks.

Clios back together, and almost ready. Just had the tracking tidyed up today. Given it an oil change also (Valvoline 5-40w). Quick wash to get rid of the dust!

Drive fine, but discovered an issue with the step down connectors I had fitted. They cracked under the heat of the coolant (so started to swap. Hopefully have a solution with some brass fittings or if I have time before my Thursday track day, I’ll he add to my friends garage- Advocult Motorsport and sort a much better solution.

Absolutely fantastic day at Snetterton. Car was incredible (slight alternator issue, but easy to fix).

Times dipped into the 2:17’s which was cool, despite me.

The interior turned out ace. The Advocult Dash pod tidied up the dash a treat and the new battery/ wiring tidy up makes for a nice place to be.

Dusting the Clio and getting ready for a day at Blyton Park on the 13th July.

Raised the ride height a little, also removed a metal tab that I think had been catching on the 205 tyres and cutting into the rubber.

Not the day I hoped for… had a decent couple of sessions, but then the alternator failed and sapped all the engine power. Managed a half decent session before that, car was fantastic.
