So its the day i'm moving out of London to start a new job. I'm all packed up, ready to go, go out to bring the car round and it won't start.
It makes the normal noise of it turning over, but the engine never kicks in and the immobiliser light stays solid red (but all the other electronics seem to work fine). I guess its not something that im going to be able to quickly fix myself so use my house mates RAC cover to get them to come and have a look at it. The RAC man says hes seen this before on clios, tries the key a few times, rings his mate who says you can sometimes trick it by locking yourself in first with the lock button on the dash, still no joy. He says he will pick it up in the morning and take it to Renault East London and it should only take a couple of hours. Very annoying but I need to start sorting things out for my new job so I get my dad to pick me and all my stuff up the next day and take me back to Nottingham.
Next day Renault ring and say it going to be £90 to perform a standard diagnostics check which I say is fine.
They then ring back last thing that day and say that there is no communication between the cars computer and the engine so the standard diagnostics isn't giving any results, so there is a problem with the computer or wiring but they dont know exactly what.
I get a man to actually roll up his sleeves and look inside to do a manual diagnostics is gonna cost £330 and be 4 working days.
I need my car for my new job and will be easier to fix where I am based so I ring RAC and they say its gonna be £250 to move the car from London to my new address in Nottingham because my friends cover does not include recovery to a home address.
Im left with no other option to let Renault London do the £330 check, which was last week.
They ring me back today and say there is a short circuit in the wiring loom which is going to cost either £1500 :dead: to replace the whole loom or £500 to repair the fault, but it wouldn't be guaranteed.
Im not to sure what to do now as its way more than I was expecting, plus as its an electrical fault it could have also caused damaged to another component.
Im gonna get some quotes from places in Nottingham in the morning and consider the £250 RAC charge if local quotes are better.
