182cup- Forgive the post

  Ziel Nurburgring

But i wondered how many on here were going to sell the 182 they have had for less than 6 months or so and buy the cup. Who was suprised they did one. And is 20kg going to make that much difference?

[Blink172 apologises unreservedly, as he has been a dolebum for 6 weeks, he has missed out on the most recent goings on with this website, renault and their insistance on p1ssing people off and renaults lies and this post was a way of asking what your thoughts are]

Dont think many people will swap dont see the poiont of the 182 cup its too expensive and not that much faster to warrant the price tag, IMO of course

that much faster ?? it wont be any faster! plus you lose all the toys and your still going to be paying just about normal 182 prices, theres no chance ill be swopping for this poor marketing gimmick, shame on remo i say.

Agree^ it not really a real Cup in the way the 172 Cup was...more of a gimmick IMO

true but the 182 was a new model with better features and more HP, the 182 cup over a 182 with cup options (which is all the 182 cup is anyway) is no better, just less spec so I would be surprised if ANYBODY changed.

You would be mad.

But is a much better car in other ways.

Its still a 182 with Cup packs even if the interior has been cheapened.

By definition that makes it better than the original Cup.

Its a disgrace and defiles the "Cup" ethos. The 182 "Cup Pack" started the rot IMHO. Renault could have been onto a whole new successful marketing niche if theyd developed the Cup concept and kept it pure. They could do a stripped out, lower wider Megane 225 Cup for example and so on.

I phoned the Renault stealership yesterday to ask if the A/C and ABS and ESP were deletable as options and they said "no". It s a real shame because - a 182 proper Cup, weighing 100kg less would really be a car to get excited about.

I thought the Cup was great but then I went in the Clio Cup touring car at Bedford. It just made me think what a waste of time the original Cup was. For a hard core track day car they just didnt go far enough. It still had too many creature comforts and the ride height and general suspension setup was still way too conservative. To make matters worse they made no effort to boost the power.

people did change from 172 to cup too tho
yes they did, but because it handled better and was faster, again, this is not the case with this new version, it has nothing over the standard 182 with cup packs apart from price.

the abs cant be taken off at it is now law.

when renault offered the 172cup with CC most people went for it so they obviously thought that it was an important part of the car so have included it this time.

ESP can be turned off so no probs there anyway.

Ah, but wont the 182 Cup be available in Inferno (unless the colour we saw was a different but similar colour)?

Will we be able to order normal 182s in inferno?

I agree

The original cup as detailed in EVO was supposed to weigh 950 kgs and have 180bhp!

The current cop is somewhat of a compromise as they could have stripped it further with manual window winders etc.

However if it was a hardcore trackday beast they would have been hard pushed to sell the 2500 that they needed to homologate the cup racing series.

its ok saying that but most people dont actually want a totaly stripped out car and 90% of the cups that have been sold will never see a track in there lifetime alarge majority of people who brought these only got it so they can brag to there mates and work colleges that they have the racing/track car version of the 172 and some peolpe will have got them just because they were cheaper than the normal 172

and im not saying anyone on this site got one for these reaosns before i get accused of something ;)

Yes - Inferno has been available to order on the 182 since the middle of August. It is the same colour as the Megane 225.

I get my Inferno 182 at the end of Oct - so far Renault have recieved 2 orders for the 182 in this colour.

We will have to wait and see how many Inferno 182 cups appear.

Id buy a 182 Cup over a 182 because once the supermarkets start selling them itll be very much quite a bit cheaper than the 182 but then i think it would have been better if it was a 172 cup with the 182 bhp tag than a 182 with less gubbins.

I dont think you will be seeing them in the car supermarkets as it is a UK model, it is different on the continent so if they do have them, it will be a 182 Team and not cup which is slightly different spec and colours.

It is the same as the 172 cups, AFAIK these werent available throught the car supermarkets as it wasnt a cup outside of the UK, it was a Ragnotti.

By doing this, it is one way Renault can put a stop to imports killing their dealer business if they are only available through dealers and not on import because an imported one would have the Team graphics and spec, and would probably only be available in left hand drive.
