182FF 49.3 mpg

  182
I was going to fill up near work but it was shut. Had 3 choices:
1. morrisions
2. sainsbury
3. drive 18 miles home like a ponce.

I only feed her on shells finest so decided for option 3, according to the computer i had less than 1/2 gallon of juice. I reset the trip computer and averaged 49.3 mpg!!! 6 miles motorway 12 miles fast 'A' roads, i normally get about 34.

Have i set a new record?

the trip computer will not be accurate until it works out the way you are drivin so it will be high up when you reset it.tbh i never really use mine as a guide beacuse its always totally different when im ddoin the same journey each day

Wtf, what a load of rubbish:S. Plus even if the the computer is not that accurate if your getting 49mpg then it will in reality be at least 45 so the 1*2's are still good on fuel when needed.

erm why is that a load of rubbish
i mean if your on mpg settin on trip computer then reset it it starts high an goes down untill its at the rate you are using
it doesnt go straight to 35mpg say
best ive seen is about 40
and i agree they are good
im only sayin ive seen people go look im gettin 55 mpg
while in theory its setting itself after being reset
so thankyou but not a load of rubbish

Still a load of rubbish, if you reset it THEN set off you will find it starts off low until you get a few miles on it. It only takes a short distance before it becomes as accurate as it is going to get!
47mpg is the best I've had on a 90 mile journey resetting it before I set off.

are you stupid?
that is what i have just said pretty much
well mine starts high an works down
an then ive seen it hover around 40-50 mpg
before finally reachin the average of 30-35 or so after covering a few miles
like you said

It works out the average over the distance, so if your doing 56mph and reset it and continue to do 56mph you will more than likely be doing 49mpg. It's accelerating that buggers it up.

If you reset it and don't move you'll be doing 0MPG

PMSL this made my morning.

The trip starts on zero and works up, has on every 1*2 I've been in as it's an average measurement and not instantaneous; so it will never be 100% accurate. Other cars will show the instant measurement and so you'll see s**t like 999.9mpg.

For example, this was after fueling up and driving through the 50mph SPECs cameras on the M1.

But by the time I got to Manchester it was down to about 35mpg.

If your 1*2 is burning fuel then you might want to give it a service or consider swapping the Lambda.

This thread is s**t.

You risked running out of petrol, because you only put Shell petrol in your car?

SRS?? Do you think Morrison's petrol will make any difference? FPMSL.

As someone that used to do a 180 or so mile round trip commute daily in a clio, it does.

Around 5mpg average difference ive found.

29mpg I'm getting. No doubt because of all the roadworks round here, my average speed since I filled up two weeks ago has been a staggering 19 mph! Nineteen!!
