197 Brembo Caliper Pins

Afternoon...

Yesterday I went to change the front brake pads (I completed the backs, almost no problems)..

But i couldnt remove the pins on the front (seemed to be stuck) - I put on some WD40 to try and loosen the pins but no avail!

Am i missing a trick here? what do you guys to to help remove the pins?

If i can't get them off, I'm going to have to grind them off.. can someone recommend somewhere to buy them? (Or sell some to me!!)

They are a nightmare to get out. There's a guy over on meganesport that sells a pin kit that's a different design and metal so it doesn't corrode and seize to the caliper.

Absolute nightmare to get out. When ever we service 197s we remove them and give them a clean. You will start to bend them soon then you are fucked.

Ended up having to take the caliper off and get some heat onto it to get it moving.

I now have the pins held in with R-clips, instead of the standard friction fit which as we've found, corrode and seize in the caliper.

A guy at work sprayed mine with wd-40 and left it for 15 mins then got them out with no problem

The Porkas brembos have R clip pins.

The spring on the inside end of the pin corrodes and expands causing the issue.

I'm due new front pads soon...I'm actually quite looking forward to getting it up with wheels off and swapping the pads over. I was absolutely dreading it last time LOL.

The RS pins have the springs the Porka has different brembo calipers but the single pin is held in with an R clip. Much better method.

I've had to drill them out before!!!

Usually if you start by hitting the drift HARD right from the start you're ok. If you start off tapping gently and being delicate they end up bent. U usually give them a few hits in from the back too, just to try and break the corrosion

I did this, tried tickling the stuck one out, then once it had started to bend it was properly game over.

Can't remember what the replacement R-clip pins cost me, £40-£50 I think. Worth every single penny.

The Renault ones are ok if you clean the lube the springs at every service. I think some bloke on 197.net had the R clip ones made locally not too sure.

There's a thread over on 197.net where the chap who had some made with R-clips was selling them - search over there for caliper pins and you'll find it.

Getting them stripped down every 12 months is a must!
