197 brembos on a 182 conversion questions

  clio 182
Hi,

im thinking of getting parts ready to upgrade the brakes on my 182 for this summer and have seen people putting 197 brembos on their 182's.

what additional parts and modifications would be needed for the conversion and can you still retain using standard 182 size discs?

cheers

They clear on 16"

Yup - easily clear the callipers (have a look in my project thread)

If you are planning to just use 16" wheels then you can use 300mm discs (Scenic discs fit straight on)

Then you just need the correct bracket and bolts - simples.

with 280mm discs, 20mm spacers and some calliper machining they fit under 15'" williams speed lines :D

the 300mm discs conversion like the one linked above won't for certain.

280mm might with spacers - but you'd need to make some measurements of the wheel etc to see if its feasible.

no doubt that they wont fit under 15's, but I thought it may give Simon food for thought and help him a little... somewhow.

wildwood 4 pot kit fit under 15" 2118's with ease, or atleast that have done on mine, and the misses old 182cup packed car over the years.

cheers guys i will start looking into it, my wheels have different offset from normal due to them being off a swift, not sure if that gives me a slight clearance advantage or not. george182 it was your project thread that has made me think about the brake upgrade, your setup looks realy nice. il have a look into the willwoods. do the willwoods require different discs or still use the standard clio size?

It depends which kit you get iirc, some kits are 295mm discs and others use standard.

Ive got 300mm and 5 pots under 15" OZ F1 on mine, but they required a 30mm spacer to fit, which is about 15-20mm more than I would have liked ideally, but with lots of power the brakes are so important to me its even worth sacrificing handling slightly.

With 280mm mine would fit under 15" oz f1 with no spacer.

I want to find some 15" wheels that will clear them on 300mm with a 15mm spacer, so at some point im going to round a load up and see what I can work out.

i must be on the wrong forum haha. if my 2118's are 7x15 with 32 offset does that mean i have more clearance than normal, abit confused when it comes to offset

ATS cups are spacious.

EDIT: OP, I tried a few and with your offset (if all 2118's have the same inside profile) you would get away with 10mm spacers, probably best to get 16mm as they're the smallest hubcentrics to fit iirc.

They dont really look it TBH, the spoke seems to start coming in very soon, will have to try and find one in a sensible offset to try though.

Comp MO I was thinking, or maybe cav cesaro.

Whatever it is, its going to have to have no "dish" to it that is for sure.

My mate has 305mm disks and ap 5110's iirc with somewhere around an et30 offset. Look the b****cks on his mk1 golf but I'm not sure they would on a Clio, nor your later choice.

Speaking of cups, I've been looking at the aluline cups, 7J with a 28mm offset. Are they much different to the ATS cups in terms of inner diameter? Ie would I be able to fit the 197 caliper inside on a standard disc?

TBH im far more interested in clearance than looks.

Id run teddy bear wheels if I though they helped TBH

I meant to say ATS DTC's, used by a lot if the fiesta ST championships. Nice strong wheels supposedly despite the looks.

Those look promising!

Will have a bit of a look into that.

Best thing about those, is I could get some for the front and they dont look *that* different to the OZf1 so I could still run the f1 on the back, that way I would only need to buy about 8 wheels rather than 16.

Hmm, looking from a different angle I might still struggle TBH

Really need a picture from the inside looking out not the other way around which is all I can find!

Yeah I can't help but they're spacious as said, a lot smaller step inside than F1's and 2118's have. The spoke bows out too to accommodate the calliper with big offsets.

Would certainly be a good option to look into, especially with regards to them looking like skinny ozf1 spokes anyway :)
Thanks for the tip!

is 280mm the standard disc size?
