Got to agree with you there matey...tho under inspection of my 7,000 mile old exhaust yesterday when i had the wheels off i'm not sure how long it'll last...YS in a few months i think..

I just don't get why some 197 owners are so defensive? The negative points of the 197 (and every car has it's negatives) are what put me off it. Never disputed the handling and braking abilities, but the straight line shove should be better and the steering could be more feelsome (but TBF most new cars have pretty s**t steering feel). At the end of the day, good car, but not for me. Don't understand why people get so upset by other people's opinion's, it's not an insult lads!!

buh? I'm not defensive and upset at all? I have merely pointed out an ommision you made For the record i have had a Cup and a 182 and the difference in straight line speed is nill. I had my 182 standard, against a mate in a 197 (standard) last summer. We found ever it was who stepped on the loud pedal first. Have you had both cars together side by side?

Wasn't aimed at you bud, 'some' peops. You forgot "this (VXR) feels much quicker in a straight line". At the end of the day the VXR is quicker in the straight's, the clio is quicker through the corners. The 197 seems to be turning into a bit of a focus rs, in that the only 2 magazine's that I really pay attention to seem to disagree on it (EVO vs Autocar).

Good vid, I was looking at one the other day at a renault garage and it did look good.....one of the quotes "not very fast in a straight line" is the only reason I will not get one, if only RUK had put the megane 230bhp turbo engine in it
they could have my money now....(still they are a bit tall though )

Typical balanced point of view. I'm pretty sure even the biggest fans (Autocar) have said it's unfair to compare the 197 to the Trophy, due to the development and special suspension on the Trophy. Nice informed, non-biased opinion there mate. The 197 may not be objectively slow, but even the mag's that are fans of the car agree that it's not that quick in a straight line. Stick the 230 engine in it, and I think you've got a world beater. Until then, I don't think it's in the same bracket as 182Trophy/cup, 205gti, 306rallye etc. But then, as I don't agree with 197 owners, I obviously can't afford one, and obviously haven't driven one

just watched the video and obviously I’m pleased, but the difference between that test and the 5th gear test/video is that the Corsa has the 18 in wheels. All the mags and Tuners including 888 and Thorney have said to go for, as its makes a massive difference in the handing of the car.

Good video. Am surprised the swift was so far behind ( I expected 4 seconds ish,) but went in one the other day and it felt fast and fun. Defiantly something I’d consider as an alternative

I've always had a soft spot for the Swift. It's odd really as I don't really think of Suzuki making quality cars, but the Swift looks quite classy and I love it's chunky styling.

Not exactly what I meant but alright!

Basically the Cup started going downhill after the 172.

172 Cup Minus = ABS, Air-Con, Thinner glass, leather, xenons, few other things
182 Cup Minus = leather, xenons, climate, bout it!
197 Cup Minus = body coloured side strips + door mirrors, electric door mirrors.

All just seems a bit of a joke to the name Cup really.
