My mum is about to by a DCi clio dynamique but cant make up her mind as she thinks its a very plain car.

I'm trying to persuade her to buy a 197 which she could prob do for near enough same price but she says its silly because of insurance group and petrol. What sort of mpg are people getting?

Also, what sort of prices can you pick up a sub 10k miles 197?

Cheers

Heard that it's around 27 mpg, Andy. As for price, I have no idea! lol

Cheers

26mpg, on a tankful with 50/50 motorway and town.

if you drive like your gran you can get 33mpg.

drive it like you are meant to and you'll do 22-26 over a tankful

check autocar or pistonheads. cs is bad for giving prices

Hmmm maybe she should just get a DCi then. Shame they dont do a DCi RS clio! I just think standard clios are boring!

They had a kitted diesel at RWS '06 with a Sebring exhaust on it. Looked quite good if I remember rightly.

i am around 22-24 but thats doing quite short journeys like 1.5 miles twice a day and driving it like it was meant to be done the rest of the time....

i'm usually on 21 - 23

Stoopid. My old mans M5 (5l V8) averaged 22mpg. Normal mixed driving. Why can the 197's only get 26-27? Basically same engine as 172 that gets 35mpg easily, over 40 on a long motorway journey.

The 197 is a heavier car and thus has more horses under the hood to pull the weight.

On my daily commute which is 30 miles each way I get upto about 35mpg on the trip. That's a combination of a roads and a bit of motorway cruising at 70mph.

It's not that bad considering you are getting alot of car for the money. The 1*2 don't really offer alot except performance, whereas you can be a holigan or a grandad in the 197.

You missing the main big cost in your fist post the difference in what the tax will be between the two.

what you also have to take into account - the Renault MPG computer is quite inaccurate. IT was out by about 2MPG on my 182 and is the same on my 197.

197 says i averaged 28mpg over a tank. Actual result when calcuated by myself was 26.4MPG.

See i never got 40mpg on a run in my 182. When i used to do the 150 motorway drive at about 70 -80 i would get about 34mpg. My normal commute and town driving would see me get about 29-31. (all MPG computer figures.)

The 197 does about 30-31MPG on the same long motorway run. The normal commute claims about 27-28MPG but is actually more like 26MPG. This is the real wolrd driving figures.

I could get 34MPG on a tank but it defies the point of the car. May as well have bought a Citroen C1.

Awaits Steve... sorrry sar197 with some insane argument.

LOL! So whats the tax difference between the 2?

They really should make a 197 DCi! lol

Think she's going to get a dynamique S DCi with bodykit now LOL!

IMO most of the figures I read on here for Clios are bullshit. I reset my trip going down a hill in 5th at 40mph the other day. My mpg for those 100 yards, was 49mpg...hence that's what I get?

Anyone getting over 30mpg in any RS Clio should sell up and buy a Smart car.

£210 road tax for a 197, £35 for a dci.

My old 197 wouldn't go above 23mpg. Shite on fuel, bloody brilliant to drive.

That's another disadvantage of weighting slightly more than Mars ;)

Why are we arguing Seb? We drive our car to work everyday. We don't drive it hard because it's pointless on our daily commute. The trip computer gets upto 35mpg so that makes us happy.

In the evenings and weekend we see about 27-28mpg.

If you wanna rant about some test you've done then carry on. We're happy with the information our car gives us, so stop trying to incite an arguement.

I swapped my r27 for a mazda mps (2.3 turbo) and it gets better fuel economy than the clio with the same driving style/roads!! shame as where the r27 looks better was more fun on twisty roads the mazda is obviously far far quicker on most roads....

So you get ''upto'' 35mpg then Steve? Well so do i when i freewheel down hill. I don't see why you are so obsessed with saying the 197 is so perfect. It is a great car t odrive but you cannot say it does the mpg you claim, as it clearly doesn't!

What i don't like is people putting up silly mpg they claim to get when they are definetely wrong.

So to conclude you get 27/28 mpg rfom the trip computer (so in the real world about 25/26mpg).

I have hardly doen a test lol just worked out some MPG.... deary deary me.

This is Sarah not Steve. He is not obsesssed and will be the first person to tell you his car has flaws. The trip gets upto 35mph and no further.

It seems Seb that you are more obsessed at creating an arguement with Steve. How do you know about our car Seb? Do you drive our car? Do you know we are wrong?

I drove me and Steve to Bournemouth yesterday and most of the trip was 50-60mph due to people in front of us. The trip was at 35mpg for some of the journey.

If you don't believe us and want to continue your obsessive arguement then all I can say is why don't you come and see us and we'll show you.

lol give it a rest. i'll pass thanks. I only know about your car since Steve constantly posts how amazing it is.

What i have an issue with is comments likeyour first post:

''35mpg now i've hit 10k.'' - an innaccurate post tbh. That is not the normal consumption. This thread is for someone considering buying a 197 and wants to know the real figures. Posting the tripe that you do in such a baised fashion is not helpful. I only feel compeeld to post as you and Steve seem to post so much rubbish about the 197 and are clearly to gooey eyed over the 197.

So now we get down to the facts you get 35mpg at 50 - 60 mph. well done.
