197 rather than the cup

  C-VXR, T8 Map 220BHP
^ Sorry but I would rather have my "luxuries"......

Auto Lights / Wipers, Climate and Xenons - Yes Please.

I and will have the exact same drive as the cup with my cup pack addon aswell.
Xenons cost me also most £400 in four years. Basically £400 to have working headlight!! I decided the next car I had, (and now brought) would deff not have them. Am pleased, Don’t miss them. (the 172 went through 2 bulbs and a starter-pack thing –cant remember what it is called, in four years.) I’d rather go to halfords and buy a £10bulb.

Couldn’t live without nice seats and ac etc tho as u mention

I have always had luxuries! And hardly used half of them, except aircon, hense the reason I specced aircon on my cup. Obviously renault realise that their toys are not used.

  Clio 172 mk2
Love xenon lights but rarely use the aircon in my 172.

197 still a great looking car in any guise.....has quite a lot of road prescence without being OTT like the V6

cant believe they dont have leccy mirrors! lol

As said by many, I can't believe so many people see that as pivotal in choosing a car.

Most people do have working fingers after all, and how often do you need to adjust them?

Most people still have their moms wiping their arses on here though Mark. lol And the vast majority are sheep and can't think for themselves.

He's selling because he needs a family bus Dawnc182. Kid on the way.

Are black wheels an option of the FF?
Its all for weight saving fella, its an enthusiasts car, hense the CUP label.
20kg. Ok. It's a cheaper model, not a better car to drive. There will be bugger all difference between a 197 with cup packs in terms of the driving experience. Most likely better, as you can tailor the driving position better.

Not a lot, but they are very handy to move down a touch when parking in tight spots or parallel parking.

I wouldn't call leccy windows a luxury these days, std item, elec folding mirrors is perhaps a luxury.

I don't feel the 197cup is the "enthusiasts" choice, 20kg is feck all. The 172 cup was a different beast, chassis set-up not available on any other car, no abs etc etc. The 197cup is the same as the 182cup in philosophy, more a marketing exercise. Nowt wrong with that, I bought my 182cup as it was cheaper, but don't make out it's the more focussed choice because of 20kg.

LOL Lee, this is like 5 years ago all over again.

It's a the "we hate the new Clio" cycle. People don't like change I guess.

I just started to type some of the comments I've read on here made about the different revisions over the years, but got bored. lol

Those wheel barrow exhausts seem to have been forgotten about now though.

i seem 2have sturred things up! sorry guys, thanks 4the input tho

Not at all. Every time a new model comes out people on Cliosport pick faults and slate it, then after a year or two when they can afford one they love it. It's been going on for years and won't change now. lol

When the 182 came out everyone picked on the silver headlamp surrounds and wheelbarrow style exhausts. When the Mk2 Ph1 came out everyone thought it looked like a bubble, then the ph2 came out and everyone moaned it was heavier and slower than the ph1.

Of course we all know the only Clio that really deserved a bashing was the Mk1 Ph3. lol

History repeats itself with each now Clio on here.

A lot of people in this thread have new 197 FFs though?

I can see your point however, each to their own, personally if I was going for a 197 I'd have the R27, it's just for me the one to have. :)

Good point.

I'd have had an R27 if I'd realised how cheaply I could have picked one up!! I left it to late to get a factory order in, and I wasn't ready for a new car at the time. By the time I was ready it was to late. I didn't go for a FF because I actually prefer the look of the Cup, and for some reason I feel less guilty thrashing it. lol

Without doubt the R27 was the pick, with the spec they had and the price they were selling at. But it's not really relevant anymore as you can't pick up a new one.

Same old "you can't afford it" argument. Early 197's now at a level where if you could afford a new 1*2 you could easily afford a 197. The reason for my apathy toward the 197 have nothing to do with it's cost. It's the well reported lack of go compared to other cars in the class, something the 182 never suffered with. Stick a Meg 225 engine in there and I'd put a deposit down tomorrow. I think it's a bit harsh to label people that disagree with you, as not being able to afford it.

I'd say most people on here with a 1*2 didn't buy them new though Warren and 197s are still 10k plus, probably more than a lot people paid for their 1*2s.

And the the 197 or at least the R27 I drove is far far superiour car to the 1*2 so I think the old "you can't afford it" argument holds for most people*.

The same thing did happened before everyone ranting that the Williams or Valvers were better cars than the 172 etc, but even The Jesus probably the biggest Williams fan ever has a 172 these days.

*There will of course be those die hard fans of the older models.

I'll rephrase what I said a little. Rather than not being able to afford, maybe they are waiting for them to be at a price they are happy to pay.
