1994 172'd Mk1 Valver Track Car

Well I'm not sure if this was a very good decision, but I painted the bonnet black tonight . Remains to be seen how it looks on the car as it's still drying at the moment, so I'll report back again tomorrow. It was in an absolute state before, so I'm not losing anything by having a go at least.

Anyway, bonnet off, badge off, pins off, vent off

Started rubbing the front face down. 100grit sandpaper is where it's at :evil:

100grit all over, why not. Be reet.

This got quite a few heavy scratches out

All rubbed down and wiped over to lose the dust

First light coat of satin black. Rattle can special

And a 2nd heavier coat. That'll do

Vent painted too

The paint didn't 'build' as much as I'd hoped as it's not a brand i'd used before, so I could have done with rubbing it down with a bit finer grade paper before paint ideally. Not to worry. Function>form. Go>show.

You'd need to hang the bonnet up vertically to get a better finish mate.

But fuck it, a good paint job won't make you go quicker, so don't worry about it!

When the whole thing was done with 2 rattle cans, totalling £4, I'm not too fussed. It was something to do!

How much room have you got under the bonnet??

I've cut loads out the inside but I still think its catching on something. I'm worried that if it is, on the first drive if the engine rocks it will crease the bonnet from the inside out!

It's either resting on, or very very close to where I've arrowed here. I've cut the whole inner skin out my bonnet so there's no more I can lose directly above this area. You can get around it by loosening off the bonnet catch and moving it up slightly.

I was shocked that she liked buckets seats though! Maybe because she didnt have any trouble fitting her hips in them.

Mine were a state, quick pass with some SRP and they were back how they were. Its the washing of them that does it!
