Advice on fitting 182 manifold to 172

My 182 manifold and cat' are on their way as we speak. My BenR'd inlet and plenum arrived yesterday.

1st question: Shall I fit all at once ie. will the exhaust manifold me easier to fit with the inlet removed?

2nd question? What is the actual process for fitting the exhaust manifold? Does the subframe need removing or dropping and if so how much and on which bolts? Any other hurdles or parts reuired?

Is it literally drop/ remove the subframe Fred then unbolt the manifold, no other snags?

P.S. Can I order those gaskets we spoke of?

If I can fit a 172 cat' twice, surely I can fit a 182 manifold LOL.

Have you got a contact number bud and i'll give you a tinkle next week.

Fred, don't do this, you're scaring me.

Any chance of a quick run down disregarding slicing the cat etc?

erm ok, this is the way I do it

unbolt balljoints
unbolt lower gbox mount
remove subframe support brackets and support arms
undo track rod ends and seperate from hubs
unclip PAS tank
undo colum/rack connection
remove subframe

unbolt manifold

reverse above process!

I'll budget a weekend then. Any chance you can supply the gearbox mount as well?

Lower as in dogbone. Not that one as I fitted a new one last month. The upper one under the battery but having read your description again, i'm guessing I won't be touching that one.

I changed the dogbone last month. I was thinking of the upper mount under the gearbox.

N'eh worries bud, the walk through will be muchos appreciated. I'll give you a tinkle early next week re. the gaskets and also a link pipe.

so you dont have to drop the subframe all together, get some studding 2 thick penny washers and nuts, and you can lower the rear end of the subframe little by little with no worries. You only need to drop the rear 150mm.

Cheers Ben, so I just need to loosen the bolts all around and then lower the rear section down on the studding? Any idea of the thread time on the studding?

its a pain in the arse to do.

i could not get mine out with just dropping the subframe a little bit.. was a t**t to do. ( had to change the stock one as it craked) alos the rack is connected to the subframe so watch this as it can damage it when dropping the frame

as i said, i just prefer to remove the lot, in my eyes its easier (BenR is a midget with hands of tiny man, so he can get in to do it easier!) ;)

I think i'll just bite the bullet and drop the lot.

Still waiting for my manifold to arrive, but I did only pay £55 so I can wait all month at that price.

If using the standard 172 exhaust system (cat back) is it best to get hold of a 182 cat as well or is a new system needed?

I'm just thinking it'll ramp the price of doing this up loads if I've got to buy a special cat for it, is it an arse to mod the 182 cat to fit?

I've got a cat' on the way as well for a similar price and a link pipe lined up. This will cost me £250 max'.

i paid 610 exactly for the 182 manifold , ktec sports cat and for some1 to fit it , which isn't that bad , still pricey for a few bhp ;)

That's not that bad all in Kully, it does make mine look like a Barry Argain though. It will probably turn out to be a 1.2 manifold when it arrives.
