Air Filter for a new 182

Pickin up my new 182 tom and will be ordering an induction kit for it very soon. Wondering what is the overall best one to go for. Have always gone down the K&N 57i route but just wanting to know if there is a better performing one out there? Got one eye on the Piper X Viper kit because no hot air can get to the filter. Any help would be greatly received.

Viper is good, but there are better. If you use the search function ^^^^up there it will give you loads of info. Literally hundreds of replys.

Should be in exterior section, but a sealed kit is the best bet. Ask Tom the mod if hes changed his yet as hes normally one of the first people to get stuff done to the engine.

what you gain at the top you loose at the bottom. Its one of the fundemental facts about engine breathing. "Power can neither be created nor destroyed, only transfered". But more close to home. Breathing mods (intake and zorst) can only move power about whereas if you really want proper increases you need to do actual engine mods like replacing cams (though youd loose the vvt i think) or even better would be exchanging all your engine components with titanium (possibly get some from a dead cup racer).

That may be slightly or even totally wrong but im pretty sure that if you decrease mass, then you decrease inertia meaning that your engine will be more free to get up the revs if it has less revolving mass and components (or at least thats what ive been learning in advanced physics at university, dont argue lol).

Id personally take a viper as it just looks nicer. The BMC looks minging IMO. Viper is still very good. Im not too sure if theres much in it to be honest.

IF i were to order one of these, will the late 172 type fit the 182? as i know there is one for the early mk1 172, and the mk2 172

"Power can neither be created nor destroyed, only transfered".

yeah thats true for things like sound, heat, light created by mass/energy transfer in a pure physics sort of way. (e.g. two bodies in a vaccum e.g. rocks in space colliding with no friction, no air resistance - just one mass transferring its kinetic energy to the other) but i dont think you can apply that to a car engine!

if an engine develops more power at high revs with a filter its because the filter can flow a greater volume of air whent he engine dammands it, not because youve transferred power at low rpm to high rpm!

wether you loose anything at low rpm because of the filter i have to admit i dont know, but its NOT because of energy transfer.
