Alternator belt removal Clio 1.2 16V

  Clio '01 Mk2 1.2 16V
I can't see how to remove the alternator belt on my 2001 Clio 1.2 16V D4F as the cam belt/pulleys/tensioners etc seem to be in the way - any help please?
many thanks

just slacken the alternator bolt and it will come off fairly easily, unless you have a/c

Removing the belt from the alternator is not the problem - the belt is completely 'loose' but is prevented from being removed completely by the cam/timing belt ie the alternator belt is between the cam belt and the engine block and there doesn't seem to be any gap through which to thread the alternator belt

No way the alternator belt sits between cambelt and engine. Does your Clio have a hydraulic PAS or AC?

It has PAS but no AC. The main engine shaft has two pulleys, the outer one has a wide toothed belt and the inner one a narrow toothed alternator belt.

Having had a closer look, perhaps what I was calling a cam belt isn't!

- it seems to just drive the PAS together with a tensioner wheel and then there is a separate belt that drives the alternator - is that correct? If so, how does the PAS belt get slackened enough to remove it?

That makes sense as your car is a ph1. There should be a tensioner pulley for the PAS-belt which gets detensioned by "turning" it with an allen key.
