alternator drive belt?

Car  Mk1 focus
Will it squeel if incorrectly adjusted, coursing it to slip on the pulleys? My headlights also dim at start up. Apparantley its more common on diesels because of the heavy duty batteries placing a greater load on the alternator?

Took it to a diesel specialist yesterday and he said everythings nice and tight and the belts are recently new. He couldnt pin point the problem.

I am thinking now maybe they are too tight?? Weirdly its more constant squeel when the weathers mild :S

Get the alternator and battery checked out properly. If either is duff the extra current will cause the belt to slip.

Yeah i'll give the battery and alternator a check 2morro. Cheers pal. If no joy i'll just have to get the whole thing changed.

as above battery not having enough juice will be causing extra strain on the alternator causing it to squeel, its worse when you have heaters. lights or using the steering so usually these will make it squeel

Get it checked properly, if a dci accessory belt fails it nearly always takes the cambelt out as well.
Usually the alternator pulley fails which then causes the belt to jump off then taking cambelt out!
