Am I missing a trick with fitting my scorpion decat?????

  AB182, Audi A5 3.0
My manifold to decat joint was leaking a bit, so I bought a new fitting kit from nwp. Went to put it on the car today, and there is absolutely no way I can fit the springs/washers and still get the nut on the bolt! Is there a trick im missing? Or is the scorpion decat a flawed design? The flange for the decat pipe doesn't look big enough to me, as it only covers about 3mm or 4mm of the gasket before it wont move up anymore (and as a result is tight as hell when trying to fit it between the 2 adjoining pipes). When in place, the majority of the gasket is still showing. Anyone else had this problem?

My oreca one was like the the gasket is still showing andi swear its blowing but it's a genuine renault gasket etc and mine was a full on b*****d to fit even with access to a ramp it pissed me off.... I think it's all about shouting and swearing at it

NWP Really??? Says it all. Genuine Renault Cat fitting kit is what you want.

I wouldn't let NWP sell me a mars bar they'd find a unique way of cocking that up.

FYI I used a genuine cat fitting on my scorpion decat and it was faultless over the 14 months and 12k miles I owned the car with it on.

I probably should have mentioned that the old kit bolts/springs/washers also aren't long enough (they were only just long enough with the worn gasket).

I fitted a scorpion decat to mine on Wednesday, and it fits perfectly.

I have scorpion srn019 with the corresponding decat, I used an oem renault cat fitting kit.

Pics Of your issues, are you using new parts or have you bought second hand?

New. Will go try take a pic now, but I think it will be too dark atm...

I would double check part numbers to make sure everything as it should be then check the order of your fitting like this.

^^ checked all ok.

It was too dark to use my phone, so I tried with eh slr but its a bit big to fit under the car and get a good angle/focus! anyway, you can see form this pic how much gasket is still showing...

That side looks like the nut is done up?

the springs were shorted on the new fitting kit, so I sued them in conjunction with the old bolts temporarily. The old bolts+ old springs leave not thread, the new bolts + new springs leave the same lack of thread.

As the decat isn't going over the gasket very much, it leaks when the engine is under strain.

scorpion exhausts on ebay iirc. It has the welded identification plate on it and came with all warranty documents so not a fake.

edit- it was from a seller called 'ybcarsuk', not scorpion exhausts directly.

It can only be three things

The fitting kit
The decat
The fitter lol

Is your decat for your exact exhaust? Mine was for the srn019

I bought the genuine ren fitting kit from mr greenhouse at Wolverhampton renault.

Thinking about it, when all in place the nut is slightly tight to get on but nothing a little squeeze can't sort

The gasket that sits on the manifold is bigger than you kind of would expect it to be, it does not fit right up to the end of the gasket, it has some showing.

The only thing I think looks odd about yours, the flange looks on the piss, check the other side of your decat as if you've clamped that wonky then the manifold side won't be sitting flush.

Otherwise, I can't see what else could be wrong

This is gonna sound stupid urs a 172 or 182? In work we deal direct with scorpion and they list the decat for both cars but it only fits the 182 not the 172 was a misprint in there guide.... I'd sand the inside of the decat and just try and hold the decat inline with the manifold and get some one else to torque them right up and hopefully it'll squash into place

Grreat exhaust system. I ran a decatted SRN019 on my 182.

We were really pleased with the results of the system and decat :) can't wait to finishing painting the inside and go for a drive

They don't have the greatest press on here though oddly, when I bought the car I thought we would end up changing lol

Thanks. I have contacted scorpion as I think it may be a dodgy batch (just seen someone else had the exact same problem as me a few months ago, but didn't post a resolution).

Its a 182 with the standard 4-2-1 manifold. the gasket wont squash anymore than it is in the pic. The metal is quite think on the decat as it is, I don't think sanding it is a good idea if im honest! Thanks for the suggestion though.

Had the same issue one one of my old 182s think its just a case of line it up best you can and hope it doesn't blow. I removed mine in the end.

You can always pop it up to me if you want mate

First off, Happy birthday for last Friday! Hope you had a good day yesterday?

After closer inspection, it definitely seems the decat is at fault; with it off the car the gasket barely fits inside the end even if you push it. To me, it seems like that haven't made the flange wide enough. I might get an engineering company I do work for to press it out a bit wider if scorpion don't get back to me next week.
