Well it's been another busy and very exciting morning! Got into work nice and early with a bit of a hangover and found the car looking like this which blew us away.
Still standing there staring at it wasn't what we came in to do so we set about fitting the roof. To begin with we taped the car up anywhere the glue was likely to spread that we didn't want it getting on and keyed up the areas we were glueing to. Next we got our selves set up with all the glues, rag etc we were gonna need and set about applying it.
Then simply dropped it into place and clamped the front edge down then went back to standing staring in awe at it!
After about an hour of that we decided we could swap the bolts for the cage over to the final build ones rather than the nasty things that were in it before.
We then decided if were going to get the shell home it would need wheels on it so we dashed back to the garage and reassembled the axle so it can be refitted monday.

That shell also has the advantage of an almost bottomless luggage compartment too.

Well just a little update here. The shell is now safely back in the garage ready for mine and Moo's assault on it next week as we're off work.
Also a remarkable 19 days late my birthday present arrived. The stunningly sexy and expensive GENUINE carbon fibre GT mirrors which will be frankly useless to see out of but are very light indeed!

if those mirrors are anything like mine they are laughably small and hard to see out of
it doesnt help that the whole car shakes with the engine running so all you can se is a wobbly image in them, still won't stop me fitting them :approve:

Right, day one of our assault on the Clio and we've made some pretty good progress however it was seriously slowed by the staff in KFC and the dustcart blocking a thin road who stole an astounding amount of time from our day. We Basically spent today getting everything ready to drop the engine and dash back in but weren't brave enough to start that today as we were worried we'd run out of light and not be able to get it back into the garage for the night.
We also decided to get the plastic windows in which was about as easy as jobs come.

This is going to be almost unbelievable.
Weighing as little as it does (glassfibre doors, plastic windows, carbon roof...there's almost no metal), sticky tyres (I hope?), and an RS lump up front.
Mental.

Cheers for the comments lads be interesting to see what it goes like although there's been plenty of people who have suggested it might not handle with being so light. We'll see eh.
Today was a fair bit more productive but probabaly only because we did quite a lot of the groundwork yesterday. I'll let the pics do most the talking though...
With the weight back in the front the stance of the car was vastly improved but we weren't able to put the new front wheels on as the wheelbolts haven't turned up yet so no calipers on yet either

Oh my god gutted I would've liked that! Your cup is a seriously smart bit of kit!
With regards to the engine cover it was a tough descision whether to bother or not but we do want the car to look as finished as possible and to be honest it's 4 screws to whip it back of again should i chose to save a few grams.

Well today's post is officially named as 'pretty day' and I think as you read the post it'll become clear why. Today started off back at ma and pa's picking up the second of the shortened dashes and changing everything over from the first one i did including the looms fuse box FIA kill switch etc. Once that was all done we loaded it into the ever faithful (but rapidly running out of MOT ) Nissan. Back at the garage we fitted it into the shell and started building it up.
Once that was done it was time for the bit i was really, like childish, excited about. The seats and harnesses. First we bolted in the shiny new alloy side mounts which were a saving of 4KG's over the steel ones.
Then in went the seats which were easy enough to fit but resulted in me trapping myself in the back of the car and with a tailgate pinned from the outside i had to ask a (belly laughing) Moo to let me out! Huff!
Once I was released and the seats were fitted we attatched the harnesses which I must admit the instructions were really good for. If a tad scary with all the 'you will certainly be killed if..' Written on every page. Then we stood back and admired basically.
Then tried it on for size for the first time in a while.
Once we were done patting ourselves on the back it was time to start making up the battery cable which went pretty well until rain stopped play and we had to push the car back into the garage for tonight.
