Any half decent budget Nikon fit Macro lenses? Preferably AF-S/AF-I

Trying to get my hands on a half decent Macro lens for the D40. The Tamron 90mm seems well liked, but I can't really be paying £300+ on a lens. Is there anything around £150 at most?

  182
sigma 70 - 300 f4-5.6 apo dg macro, I have one, rarely use it but it does macro. and can be had for £70ish

Edit: sorry its manual focus, but still its cheap as chips!

  RS Megane DCi 175
You're better with MF on shooting macro stuff imo.
I have the 70-300 as well - it's ok at macro, but it isn't 'true' macro tbh. Would love a proper macro lens to round out my collection!

Doesn't have to be new, I'm not worried about buying 2nd hand.

I take it you own an entry level nikon without the focus screw?

that alone rules out pretty much all 3rd party lenses. best bet would be buy the sigma 70-300 APO HSM for around £175

I have the auto-focus version of this for the D40, it's great :)
Also - the Sigma 17-70mm is a brilliant all-rounder lens

You still can't use them in a fish tank though ;)
