Last update till I get the car back.
Really happy with this for a rattle can spray job:

Just got no idea at all how this happened in storage:

I have the car back. Chris had it for a few days and nipped up a pipe union on the steering rack, which seems not to be leaking anymore! (Yay)
Also loosened, wriggled and retightened the lower u joint to rack coupling which seams to have cured the last remaining tiny hint of a tight spot.

To celebrate, I have fitted my cup spoiler. That was a pig of a job. Did the team who designed it actually see a Clio tailgate in the process????

Somehow I haven’t got the in between photos, but nothing much to see.
It took some adjusting to miss the rear edge of the roof:

But it does miss now, honest.

I even managed to tweak the aftermarket aerial base so they don’t touch!

Happy days. Also, at no point after fitting did I pull out the washer jet to check, disconnect the hose inside the spoiler, have to remove and refit. Definitely not. There are no photos to show otherwise….🤥

So I now have a Pseudo FF!!!

Shame the gearbox has started leaking from the passenger inner cv boot…😡😡

Looks great!

How did you get on with wiring the brake light?

I’ve picked up a cup spoiler to fit but the connectors from the car to the spoiler are different sizes. I presume there’s another connecting piece specifically for cup spoilers that’s missing from mine :cautious:

There is a 15cm or so link loom with the square plug on the end for the brake light connector and a mating connector for the car loom on the other end.
I don’t know if they were ever available separately. I hope you get sorted.

I went for a road trip for work down to Penzance and the Clio performed faultlessly so pretty happy with that! While I was up there I saw this offer and I was staying right next to an ATS so it seemed rude not to:

Aircon is now ice cold! Yay!

On the way back I did quite a bit of Facebook parts collecting:

That lot should keep me busy for a while.
Apart from the abs rings they are all genuine parts too so really happy about the haul, for what I consider a very fair price!

In the box there was also:

Obviously one is a circlip, but any idea what the plastic part is or where it and the circlip are for? 😁

The plastic bush is where your gear selector shift rod sits. The circlip holds the bush in.

Broke my wiper removal tool tho so no washer pump change today. ☹️

Wiper removal tool returned to Amazon and refunded, and a better one bought.
This led to:
IMG_8413.jpeg

Quick scrub:
IMG_8414.jpeg

Cleared the tubes with my bike pump, checking that water sprayed out of both headlight washers. All good.
Refitted:
IMG_8415.jpeg

I was all happy with working washers and headlight wash, and then this started:

It’s leaking constantly out of the washer nozzle. What’s doing that? Crappy replacement pump? (it WAS Ridex from AUTODOC), duff washer jet? Is there a valve in between?
It does love to fight me. 😡😡

progress has been made, more off the car tho!

I have had a passenger sill cut for some time, to repair the rust from a previous 1/4 replacement that was never rust protected.

So:
IMG_8431.jpeg

Plus a lot of spot welds drilled,
Turned into:
IMG_8432.jpeg

The rust is surface, so I will remove it with some citric acid solution, prior to painting and prepping for fitting.

I have a mate who is a talented bodywork guy, so hopefully I can talk him into helping with welding, which is well out of my comfort zone!

The MOT coming round has prompted a spate of progress on this.

First up was my hard won NOS passenger drive shaft. (Both boots shot on the old one and grease and gearbox oil everywhere was getting tiresome.
IMG_8579.jpeg

The O/S driveshaft outer boot was also worse for wear due to some careless span wrong by a previous owner so a new GKN one was fitted:
IMG_8573.jpeg

Got myself one of these for removing the joint in situ:
IMG_8571.jpeg

They are amazing.

I have increased the value of the car 1000% with that rarest of rare parts.

While there I noticed that the ball joints were both loose and old.
My local factors only had Nappa in stock. Let’s hope they are ok.
Got to love previous mechanics. Near side pinch bolt was in from the wrong side so the caliper had to come off to remove it.
Offside was a non-sport ball joint with the 10mm bolts!
IMG_8574.jpeg

New boots. I was going to go for PS3s, but I noticed that ps4s are much better reviewed, and a couple of German tyre tests on a golf gti put the Michelin Primacy 4 neck and neck with the ps4 for lap time, with the benefit of lower cost, greater comfort and less road noise… we will see. They have to be better than the barely legal Toyo proxies anyway.

Gearbox refilled:
IMG_8580.jpeg

Then it fought me. Last mot job is headlamp washers. They were working but the N/S one constantly leaked fluid so it drained the reservoir in a couple of hours.
So, on the advice of the collective wisdom of this forum, I fitted an in-line one way valve in each line. Nada. Jets don’t work any more. Pump works fine. If I pull the hoses off the back of the jets, there is a good jet of water coming out of both (after the one way valve, so they are not reversed or faulty)
Ok, I think. Maybe not enough pressure from the pump. Removes bumper. Fits replacement washer jets I had in stock. Removes one way valves
Test results.
Pull hoses from jets, pump works, hoses clear, good stream of water.
Connect bike pump to hoses, water squirts out of the jets.
Put it all together and the passenger jet works ok (if a little lazy) and the drivers one doesn’t work. 😡😡😡😡
I quit. How fussy are MOT testers about headlamp washers? 🤣

Interested to see how you find the primacy 4s, was tempted by those instead of PS3s.

@Brian J

My understanding is headlight washers are only tested on cars first used from 1st September 2009, so any 1*2 shouldn't fail on headlight washer

Info also here

Amazing. Thanks. That’s a worry off my mind.
Although my anally retentive side will still not allow me to leave them unfixed. Things that do t work on cars just bug me too much…😂

Finally got my Bodyshop pinned down. Dropped off for replacing the rear half of th n/s sill. Hopefully that will see me rust-free for a few years. The o/s is really solid, just the n/s had a new quarter and they didn’t rustproof the rear. ☹️

Photos when I get it back…

Update from the Bodyshop: it’s done and ready to collect.

Rust was worse than expected and the inner sill, arch and support panel were also going:
