ARE CLIO 182/TROPHYS BOYRACER CARS

  Cupra 300 ST 4drive
Opinions, as someone one here has stated to me in another thread that its a boyracers car. Personally i think its a well packaged performance hatch.

  RS 172
I think there is a distinct difference between 'boy racer' and performance cars. Its just some people have very biased and jaded views.

I would never in a million years class any Clio Sport as a 'boy racers' car.

Its hard to explain though really. I know exactly what I picture when I think of boy racers, but I cant put it into words really.

  RenaultSport 172.
theyre not at the moment. but as they become more affordable they will be.

theyres already tools startin to boot round in them in my area...

  Mondeo ST220
I think as they get cheaper and cheaper its inevitable. Look at saxos for example, as they became more affordable they all wanted to have them as they were the best affordable hot hatches.

the same will probably happen with the clio IMO

A boy racers car is surely defined by what mods have been done, most people would say big wheels a loud exhaust and extremely loud music would be the signs of a boyracer.

Surely that wouldn't include the 182 then?!?

My 172 deafens the average passer by but it sounds fantastic to the trained ear.

The number of people who have said my car is a boy racer wagon would be impossible to count, however these are people who haven't got a clue what they're talking about and drive 1.6 Focus'.

Those who know, know. Those who don't, fcuk 'em, i'll deafen them instead.

some one should point out that a 182 is not a nova, corsa, saxo.
boy racers in my opinion drive crap cars that are worth about a grand.
anyone seen a 182 for a grand????

  Cupra 300 ST 4drive
The cliosport is built at the Dieppe sport plant so that makes it a bit different from other standard clios and other hot hatch manufacturers, the engine is only used in that specific car and not in any other renault model.

the rs are too stealth only ppl that know about cars appreciate them.

no big arches like the saxos!

if you think about you can pick up a ph1 for about a grand more if that than a vtr but they seem to go for the slower, cheaper lower insurance grouped cars

you think about it most chavy boy racers have vtr's not vts's

i think the rs's are a drivers car not boy racers car

Sorry i did'nt include the 172 , it was because the phase 1 cars are going for silly low money, theres a silver down the road from me at £3800 on a W plate , and before the PH-Ouick crowd gang up, I hope you now where i am coming from on this subject!

I'd agree with that to an extent, the type of scum that tend to fit loads of hideous bodywork/lights/stickers do tend to go for a certain type of car. The council estate dwelling, white van driving, sunday sport reading scum will always favour something like a "scooby" or a "cossie" because they arent subtle to start with. E36 M3's and look-a-likes are the same, as soon as they become affordable you can bet your ass they'll be cruising about windows down s**t music blaring in them.

The 172 and 182 aren't as obvious to chav's and dont draw the attention they will want from their mates in macdonalds carpark. Plus there's the flack they'll get, the "french s**t" and "girls car" comments so will buy something else. I have seen one or two badly modded 172's starting to appear now but I doubt they will be as common as some cars that seem to gain cult following with chavs.

Oh and there's the fact that alot of chavs/sheep have all jumped on the drifting bandwagon so a fair few will be wanting jap and/or RWD not french FWD.

Face it. ALL cars make it down the food chain. You can't stop that. But you can offset that boy-racer stereotype, by ensuring that you don't drive your Clio like a twonk.

no but they were all the hot hatches of their day and they depreciated and so did their image with it. the same will happen to clios as they get cheaper. its happening a little now with cheaper clios

End of the day, do you really care what other people think?

Buy what you want to buy, drive what car you want to drive and enjoy it.
Exactly, i've had estates ,jeeps ,saloons ,coupes ,diesels ,hatches, if i like it and can afford it i'll have it, what really eats my sh-it is people who stereotype others

  182 has now gone!
I dont consider my car to be a 'boy racer car'.. I am a girl so does that make my 182 a 'girl racers car'?????

  Mondeo ST220
agreed it is the mods that determines it, however as they get cheaper and cheaper and more fall into the wrong hands then a reputation is built. look at saxos, people just look at them as a boy racer type cars nowadays when really the VTS is a good little car.

Exactly.

Coming from having two Imprezas, guy at work called me a chav which, ok was fair enough. Your entitled to your opinion, and I'm entitled to the opinion of saying your MG ZS is a what happens when 28 year old t**t can't afford a good car, buys.

Totally, except just how many VTR's are there? Shedloads! And why? Because Citroen are genious! Group 7 insurance for what is, in truth, quite a good car. They sold them by the bucketload and as a result, with a flooded market, the image was bought up by the boy racers very early.

Ph1's are in danger of becoming the next rung on the ladder for alot of boy racers but I think there are 2 factors which might help keep them out of their hands. Firstly, there's not that many of them, I mean in all honestly how often do you see another random one on the road, secondly, I've had a hard time convincing a few of the guys at work what it's capable of, and think that image led boy racers would dismiss it as just a 2.0 clio rather than the accomplished machine we all know it is. Genuine drivers know what they can do.

182's are still way too expensive, chav's should be banned from having 172 cups because they'll trash them all, Trophy's should only be owned by people who hold a special licence, perhaps a small specialist arm of the Freemasons?

Ph2 172 Fullfat's are chav machine's all the way aren't they?;)

Old 172's are now cheap enough for young boy racers' to buy.

So, are Clios boy racer cars?......depends who is driving them. Boy racers are boys and girls (girl racers) who sit in carparks at the weekend thinking they are cool annoying the t1ts out of residents with their $hitty sounding cars. They can be in any type of car; for example, where I live, they drive (badly) in anything from Nova's to Focus RS's and there are Clios too. A lot of CTR's are being used now, so I don't think that £1000 is the limit for boy racers these days. Mummy and Daddy can cough up for their cars. And their endorsements!

i like to drive my vee round town at nights...nice n slowly so everyone see's me for a couple of city centre laps...before dumping it somewhere and going for a pint..

am i a boyracer??

  ITB BG 182
i would not say the car is a boy racers car just the person who drives it is the boyracer.
But for a car that sort of person might choose then yea its a differnt matter if they have the money for it but most of them go for the saxo as they are cheap as pig s**t now days,

  MY10 R35 GTR
i wounld say so, buy they are gettin cheaper to buy for all the wee d1ck heads to wreck them.

When I bought my 182 tw6 years ago there was only mine, ali's 172, and a racing blue 182 in the town and surrounding ones. But now theres at least 6 or 7. Its just the same with scoobies. Years ago if you had one everyoen way in awe of you but now there are so many cheap ones to by everybodies got one.

  clio 182 + cup packs
why are people so bothered what other people think. i couldnt care less what people think bout my 182, i baught because its such a drivers car and i can afford it and its plenty quick for me. if some one wants to brand me a boy racer then thats there opinion there aloud that wether i take them on is another matter

:)

  FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU
Its happening, just watch. Through the years it will gradually move through the phases etc.

  Yaris Hybrid
I've always thought of the CTR as being a boy racers car so I guess the 182 must be one too.

But yeah you shouldn't worry about what people think. Then again it can be a problem at times.

When I had my 182 I had nothing but grief from boyracers and older drivers in greyracers cars (M3's, Evo's etc).

Last night I went for the first proper drive to Sainsburys in the Aygo and went down the dual carriageway and a kiddie in a CTR sat at a safe distance behind me for 3 or 4 stretches until I turned off even though I was only doing 55 to 60mph! Had I been in the 182 he would have been all over my arse and trying to provoke me into something, pulled alongside me revving or overtaken and deliberately cut me up.

So I guess the image does have a bearing on how people treat you on the roads. I am noticing a massive difference now.

I was walking along speaking to a friend the other day (girl) who likes cars but knows very little. We saw a lush Vee Blue/silver and i was like what do you think of that? she replied its a boy racers car!! I didnt speak to her for the rest of the day :rasp:

yes if it has a w4nk driving it, a lot of them seem to.

A lot of us are just car enthusiasts who will be labelled boy racers by non car enthusiasts.

  Yaris Hybrid
I've told this story before but when my mate had his Mk1 V6 we came out of the pub one night and some blokes asked him if it was a 1.2...

Some cars just have that look about them I guess.

  tiTTy & SV650
When I started my job 2.5 years ago one guy asked me how much I'd spent modding my 182 to get it to how it is just now (i.e. standard).

Then I told him it was standard and does 140mph and he changed his tune.
