AST Topmounts Need help

Hi ive used the search function but have'nt found a similar thread,

Im having trouble fitting AST topmounts to FK konigsports. I ordered the FK bush kit from AST but it doesnt seem to fit.

1st pic shows all the bits i have

2nd shows the tob cap and bearing sat on the strut minus spring

3rd shows the anodised bit

4th shows the nut sat on top and miles away from the thread

5th shows the bearing offered up to the car. The bearing and top cap dont seem big enough? As if they could be pushed through almost.

Then when its all offered up to the car the gap between the orange annodised bit and the top of the suspension turret is massive.

Dont know what im doing wrong.

Kev,

in your third pic the bearing and orange bit should sit on the black top hat, there should be no gap between the pieces. I think there's a little metal clip on the damper which is stopping the upper bits dropping down enough. You don't need to remove the clip but might need a tap with a rubber mallet or something.

On your last pic, the main orange bit should also be under the turret, just the small bolt ring sits on top.

Sorry, do you mean the spring cap should sit up with the rest of the black bits?
Its only at the bottom in the pic because i tryed it with out the spring if thats what you mean?

Ahh i see what you mean about the orange bit, did you have to drill the turret?

In you picture of your topmounts built up you have the adjustable tab showing. If you loook in my forth picture my nut doesnt even touch the thread. Am i being an idiot?

Yeah, the spring cap should sit with the rest of the bits (didn't see there was no spring ). I'm sure theres a little metal clip which is stopping the spring cap dropping down enough. I'm trying to find a pic!

No drilling required

Yeah, the whole lot needs to drop down more. As far as I know the bearing and spring cap are standard sizes, the only mod for FK's is the top hat so it should fit!

Couldn't find a pic, so this is paint's finest!

Either it won't fit over the larger diameter of the main strut (which it should) or it's that little clip getting in the way.

Thas a great picture, To be honest i have'nt noticed any form of circlip on the strut. I think its the diameter of the strut or the hole in the top hat that is'nt big enough. It goes down part of the way but when it reaches the thicker part thats it.

Il have to check for a circlip, if there is one should this be removed then replaced?

It is quite a tight fit so maybe just needs some WD40 and mallet persuasion?

I removed the clip to get the parts on then put it back on, probably don't need to replace it but saves losing it!

Sorted now with some hep from MC hammer, just had to tap it down over the wide bit of the strut. Thanks greg
